In 2019, Hallmark Channel’s hit drama When Calls the Heart got its first spinoff. The new series When Hope Calls first aired exclusively on the network’s streaming-only service, Hallmark Movies Now. In February, it came to TV, with season 1 episodes airing on Sunday nights after When Calls the Heart

The television broadcast of When Hope Calls has exposed a whole new group of people to the series. And those fans are looking forward to seeing another season of the show. They’ve been sending messages of support on social media and begging Hallmark to renew When Hope Calls.

When Hope Calls focused on two sisters named Lillian (Morgan Kohan) and Grace (Jocelyn Hudon). They grew up apart but reunited as adults and now run an orphanage in the small town of Brookfield, not far from Hope Valley. It co-stars RJ Hatanaka as Constable Gabe Kinslow, Greg Hovanessian as Chuck Stewart, and Wendy Crewson as Tess Stewart, Chuck’s mom.

Initially, Hallmark intended the series as a streaming-only offering. But they faced some pushback from viewers who said they were interested in the show, but unwilling or unable to subscribe to the streaming service. Many were delighted when they learned that the series would air on the Hallmark Channel this year.

Hallmark hasn’t revealed how many people watched When Hope Calls when it was first made available on Hallmark Movies Now. But Crown Media, Hallmark’s parent company, revealed in November 2019 that the service had recently reached 750,000 subscribers, up from 500,000 a year earlier.

Since it began airing on Hallmark Channel, When Hope Calls has averaged 1.6 million viewers per episode, according to TV Series Finale. Viewership has increased a bit in the second half of the season. But it’s not as popular as When Calls the Heart, which has averaged 2.4 million viewers per episode in season 7.

The When Hope Calls season finale airs Sunday, April 26 at 9/8c on Hallmark Channel.
