‘Gossip Girl’ reboot

The reboot is picking up a few years after the original ended.

“Eight years after the original website went dark, a new generation of New York private school teens are introduced to the social surveillance of Gossip Girl,” the log line reads, according to Deadline. “The prestige series will address just how much social media—and the landscape of New York itself—has changed in the intervening years.”

The reboot will feature 10 hour-long episodes and will be just as gritty as the original, but will also cover more timely issues like social media and online privacy.

The show’s original creators, Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, will be executive producers for the reboot as well.

Which ‘Gossip Girl’ cast members are returning?

When the reboot was announced, fans wondered if they would be seeing Blake Lively (Serena) or Leighton Meester (Blair) back on the show. So far, there have been conflicting answers.

“We’ve reached out to all of them to let them know it was happening, and we’d love for them to be involved if they want to be involved, but certainly didn’t want to make it contingent upon [them being involved],” Schwartz said at the Television Critics Association summer press tour in 2019, according to Entertainment Tonight. “They played these characters for six years, and if they felt like they were good with that, we want to respect that, but obviously…it would be great to see them again.”

Meester, on the other hand, said she wasn’t asked.

“I was not asked to be on it, so no,” she told fans at the same tour.

Chace Crawford, who played Nate, once said he wasn’t sure how he and the old cast could be integrated.

“It is funny to me, it’s almost become a classic now,” he told Entertainment Tonight  in 2019. “It probably goes to show you that we shouldn’t be redoing it. I can’t be in high school anymore. That’s the thing. I don’t even know what they would do. For me personally, I would love to see everybody again and I loved everybody and I would love to work with everybody, but I don’t know if it’s necessarily a reality.”
