Damian Lillard has spent his NBA career making some great moves on the court with the Portland Trail Blazers. Aside from being one of the best guards in the league, he’s also made some decent moves off the court as well. He’s currently engaged to a woman named Kay’La Hanson. Let’s take a closer look at Lillard, his fiance, and the family they’re building that NBA fans love.

The Portland Trail Blazers drafted Lillard in 2012 out of Weber State with the sixth pick in the first round. Since then, he’s proven them to be geniuses. He’s made five All-Star game appearances during his career with the Trail Blazer. He has a career average of 24.0 points per game, 6.5 assists per game, and 4.2 rebounds per game.

Before the NBA suspended play due to COVID-19, Lillard was having the best season of his career in 2020 with a scoring average of 28.9 points per game.

Despite Lillard’s great season so far, he’s expressed some reservation about playing during the pandemic and the NBA’s proposed “bubble” to keep its players and staff safe according to ClutchPoints.com

“So for me, it’s gonna be, ‘What time is practice? What time can I get in the weight room, What time can I get some shots up? What’s the plan for game day?’ I’m going to be in the room. I’m going to have my PS3, my PS4. I’m going to have my studio equipment, my mike, my laptop. I’m going to have all my books. I mean, that’s it. I’m going to be in the room, chillin’.”

Lillard’s reservations are understandable. Like so many other NBA players, he has a family to think about.

Who is Kay’La Hanson?

According to NBCSports Northwest, Hanson and Lillard have been together since they both attended Weber State. Hanson initially studied nursing but now owns a beauty salon in Oregon where she resides with Lillard.

Despite being an item for years, they had yet to make it “official.” Lillard’s Blazers’ teammate CJ McCollum playfully teased Lillard about when he planned to pop the question to his longtime girlfriend. The answer to that came this past February when Lillard received a well-deserved break from the NBA season and could concentrate solely on Hanson.

At a party with their own inner circle present during the All-Star Weekend in Chicago this past winter, Lillard proposed. Big names in attendance included the rapper Common as well as some of Lillard’s former teammates like Evan Turner and Tim Frazier. Lillard’s mentor, former Blazers’ assistant David Vanterpool, was also in attendance.

While this was truly a joyous occasion for the two, it didn’t represent the beginning of their family’s journey. That started a few years prior with the birth of their son.

In 2018, Hanson gave birth to the couple’s first child, their son Damian, Jr. According to an interview with the Portland Tribune, Lillard said the experience was a beautiful one for the entire family.

“It was a long labor, but it was a great experience…There’s a certain level of worry any time you have a child born, and also for my girlfriend. He was born healthy, and she got through it healthy as well. It’s a lot off my shoulders.…I don’t think there’s really any way to describe it. It’s a different level of excitement. It was my son, looking into my eyes.”

The Lillard’s little one is adorable, and fans love his antics at Blazers games. One Twitter post included a video of him sneaking onto the court during Blazers’ warmups. There’s no question he’ll make quite an impression in a tiny tux at his parents’ upcoming wedding.
