Colton Underwood’s season of The Bachelor was a wild ride for viewers, as none of us could’ve anticipated how it ended. While Hannah Godwin seemed like the frontrunner to win Colton’s heart, and he was certainly falling in love with Tayshia, too, The Bachelor star ultimately picked Cassie Randolph before the final rose ceremony even took place. And things really devolved from there.

Colton was warned by the other girls that Cassie was wishy-washy about the relationship, and she made it known that she was ready to give it all up and go home at the end. Luckily for Colton, he was able to win Cassie back — and they’re still together today. Not everyone thought their relationship would work out, though. And one of the skeptics who made his stance known was ex-Bachelor star Ben Higgins.

Ben Higgins thought Cassie Randolph and Colton Underwood would never work out

Fans had their eyebrows raised when Colton and Cassie seemed to be in a perfectly happy relationship following the drama on the show, and even star Ben Higgins was confused at first. Back in March, Us Weekly reports Ben told Entertainment Tonight, “I think she should have did something different with Colton. It’s very clear that she was not into him.” He went on to say that when Cassie initially broke up with Colton, he believes she was trying to tell Colton that he was a great guy, but he just wasn’t for her. “But instead, it felt like she was kind of dancing around the subject, going, ‘This is too fast, this isn’t right for me, I just don’t know.’ She knew,” Ben added.

More recently, Ben talked to Us Weekly about Cassie and Colton, too — and he recounted when he first watched the breakup unfold. “I watched it as a fan and as a viewer, and when I saw the breakup, I was like, ‘This doesn’t feel right. It doesn’t seem right. She’s obviously not that into him. She’s telling him she wants to go home’.”

The ex-Bachelor has since changed his tune, however

Ben initially had little hope that Cassie and Colton could ever make their relationship work out, but he’s since regained some confidence for the happy couple. As he told Us Weekly, “Then I see their story kind of take a turn and for them to come back together and build this relationship that now is existing to this day, and so I’m excited for them.” Ben also added that Colton and Cassie have a lot of complexities in their relationship that maybe made him doubt their spark, but he thinks it’s now becoming a “story that they can tell forever.”

“I’m happy for them. I’m glad they proved me wrong,” Ben went on to tell Us Weekly. He also added that while it’s clear Colton’s totally in love with Cassie, it also seems like Cassie is reciprocating those feelings in public, now, which certainly gives fans hope that their love is going to be long-lasting.

It looks like Cassie and Colton are on the fast-track to marriage now

Colton came on The Bachelor with a clear goal: He wanted to find a woman to spend the rest of his life with, and he wanted to propose at the final rose ceremony. While he found Cassie and the two are going strong, Cassie made it clear on the show that she wasn’t ready for marriage. Instead, the two decided to take their relationship slow and discuss the possibility of engagement at a later date. And it seems now the time has come where they’re considering a permanent future together.

When Entertainment Tonight talked to Colton and Cassie on the red carpet recently, they asked the couple about their future plans. Cassie spilled that an engagement could happen within the next year, and Colton agreed. “If I was a betting man I’d say it would happen within the next year. I would definitely say within this year is a good time frame,” Colton added. We’re looking forward to hearing more from these two as they share more future plans with the public.
