A few years before Khloé Kardashian began her whirlwind romance with NBA player Tristan Thompson, she was head over heels for another famous male: French Montana. Though the spark between Kardashian and Montana didn’t last, things with the two never seemed to take a bad turn.

So, why did this couple end their relationship? Here’s everything we know.

Khloé Kardashian and French Montana had a summer romance

Kardashian and French, whose real name is Karim Kharbouch, started dating in the spring of 2014, shortly after her split from ex-husband Lamar Odom.

At first, the pair kept their romance under wraps. But after enjoying several romantic getaways and being spotted hanging out together on multiple occasions, the stars’ romance was confirmed in April of that year.

“Khloé is totally with him. She’s having so much fun with him,” a source told People. “She wasn’t sure at first where things would lead but he treats her amazingly. That makes her feel really good.”

After that, the reality star and the rapper began putting their relationship on full display.

In June, French was spotted glued to Kardashian’s side at her 30th birthday celebration in Las Vegas. The couple also spent a ton of time together in Hamptons that summer while Kardashian and her sister Kourtney filmed their show, Kourtney and Khloé Take the Hamptons.

To those looking in, it seemed like Kardashian and French had a good thing going. Unfortunately, the couple’s romance didn’t last very long as it was over almost as quickly as it started.

Why did Khloé Kardashian and French Montana split?

In September 2014, media outlets confirmed that Kardashian and French had called it quits after just eight months of dating.

According to E! News, the Good American founder was the one who ended things. Insiders revealed that she grew weary of the “Unforgettable” rapper’s “needy, obsessive” behavior and slowly began distancing herself.

But despite breaking up, the insider noted, “Khloé thinks he’s a great guy but it just wasn’t working out.”

A month later, French opened up about his post-split relationship with the reality star, admitting to SiriusXM radio host Sway Calloway that he and Kardashian were still close.

“Khloe, my baby,” he said. “We got a special relationship. We’re always (gonna) have that relationship… We talk da*n near everyday (sic).”

The couple eventually decided to give their love another try and began dating casually again shortly after parting ways.

In November 2014, Kardashian admitted to E! News that she and the rapper had been “hanging out,” but she refused to label their relationship.

Sadly, their rekindled romance crumpled just a few weeks later, with insiders revealing that the couple was putting this relationship where it belonged — on a permanent hiatus.

The pair continue to ‘lean on’ each other

Though their relationship didn’t work out, French and Kardashian have continued to be each other’s rocks through difficult times.

Following the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star’s very public break up from Tristan Thompson in 2019, she reportedly leaned on the rapper for moral support.

“Khloe has been leaning on her ex French in the last several months,” a source told Hollywood Life (via Cosmopolitan). “French is someone that Khloe has always been able to trust and talk to about things. They still have great chemistry together.”

A few months later, Kardashian returned the favor when Montana was “rushed to the hospital” after taking a few trips abroad.

Seeing as they were friends before they started dating, French and Kardashian have always had a special connection, and according to the rapper, they will continue to have that unbreakable bond for many years to come.

“Me and Khloe are always going to be friends, and the family still remains close,” he said in an Aug. 2019 interview with Haute Living. “I feel like we had a real dope relationship. There was no bad blood, nobody did something to somebody that we couldn’t come back from. The love was real.”

Montana continued, “When the love was like that, it’s always going to be like that. Friendship after a relationship is something that’s real hard to do, and I’m glad we’ve been able to do it.”
