WandaVision has been quite a popular streaming series for Disney+. Along with being a hit with fans and critics alike, the show is also kicking off Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Marvel says the series will lead right into the events of the next Dr. Strange film, which has led fans to speculate: how will the two iconic characters meet?

How WandaVision is establishing the next phase of the MCU

Wanda is one of the most powerful characters in the MCU. She has the ability to bend reality to her will, which has already been on full display during the events of WandaVision. These events are likely to have cascading impacts outside the boundaries of just this series, however.

One of the reasons the MCU is so compelling is that each individual property represents a smaller piece of a larger, interconnected universe. That means that much of the action in one show or movie will have an effect on the other shows and movies.

Wanda’s attempt to distort and control reality is absolutely going to affect other properties as well. Along with being expected to show up in the next Dr. Strange movie (more on that below), there’s a good chance her actions will in some way influence the next Spider-Man film as well.

That film is rumored to tie into the concept of multiverses, bringing back veteran Spider-Man actors from other cinematic universes. It wouldn’t take a massive leap in logic to think Wanda may play a role in that.

Wanda’s role in ‘Dr. Strange and the Multiverse of Madness’

According to ComicBook, Wanda will have a major role in Dr. Strange and the Multiverse of Madness. Elizabeth Olsen, the actor portraying Wanda, said that after WandaVision is complete, her role alongside Dr. Strange will feel complete:

“And now, I’m excited for the next thing… I just signed on because I liked the character, because of the comics, and I thought the Age of Ultron story was really powerful and fun, angsty and rebellious, and really an honorable story to tell…Now, it’s this completely new thing that it never was at the beginning. The transition from WandaVision to Doctor Strange 2, I just feel like it’s all so earned.”

Plenty of people online have speculated about what role Wanda will play. Will she be an ally to Dr. Strange or a villain? However it shakes out, fans are already excited to see how the duo meets.

A Reddit thread discussing the potential meeting of the two had plenty of ideas and theories of how it might happen, with one commenter stating:

“I can see their first interaction being, as per usual with superhero movies, in the middle of some sort of fight. Maybe Wanda is being chased by Mordo or is trying to fight back against some monster coming in through whatever breaches in reality the events of WandaVision create, and Strange jumps in to help her.”

This scenario recalls Captain America’s introduction to Avengers: Infinity War. In that movie, Thanos’ Black Order is pursuing Wanda and Vision. Before they can apprehend them, Captain America, Black Widow, and Falcon step in to help save the day. It was the type of scene that left fans cheering and it was a clever way to reintegrate those characters into the story.

Another (more likely) scenario? The two engage in some kind of fight. It’s unclear if Wanda will be a full-fledged antagonist for this movie, but it’s safe to say that at some point the two may come to blows.

Much like in the original Avengers movie where Thor and Tony Stark battle upon their first meeting, perhaps Wanda and Dr. Strange will test each other’s strength.
