Helstrom premiered on Hulu on Oct. 16, and since then, fans have been wondering if the Marvel series will get a second season. Here’s what we know so far about Helstrom season 2.

‘Helstrom’ is based on Marvel characters

Hulu’s brings the hellish world of Marvel’s Son of Satan, aka Hellstorm to life with its dark new series, Helstrom.  The show follows Daimon (Tom Austen) and Ana (Sydney Lemmon) Helstrom, a duo of supernatural siblings that reconnects when the demon possessing their mother, Victoria (Elizabeth Marvel), begins wreaking havoc in the world.

The siblings’ father was a demon/satan/serial killer who married their mother and led her into a path of darkness. But Daimon, who was raised by Dr. Louise Hastings (June Carryl), sides with his mother’s humanity rather than his father’s evil side. And Ana — who was kidnapped by her father and then raised in foster care — has more of a selfish streak, but ultimately tries to side with good.

Both Daimon and Ana possess immense powers inherited from their father. Daimon can release humans from demonic possession, make objects move with his mind, and can create fire on command. Like her brother, Ana is telekinetic and can project fire. But she also has the unique ability of sucking the life/energy out of a soul.

The show is not part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe

Helstrom was created by Marvel Television and executive producer Jeph Loeb. And unlike other new Marvel shows — including WandaVision, Loki,  and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier — it is not part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

In the last decade, most Marvel TV shows were made by Marvel Television, which was run by Loeb. And all MCU movies were produced by Marvel Studios, which is led by Kevin Feige.

But as reported by Deadline, Marvel Television was phased out in December 2019. Loeb left the defunct studio. And the shows it had already produced, including Helstrom and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., were released as its final series.

Marvel Studios is now creating films and TV series for the MCU. The new Marvel shows will be released on Disney+ and will crossover with characters and stories from the movies.

Will there be a ‘Helstrom’ season 2?

Despite that nailbiting cliffhanger, it doesn’t look like Helstrom will return for season 2. The show’s studio and executive producer are both gone, which means there isn’t much hope that a subsequent season would get made.

The only chance the show survives is if it is picked up by Marvel Studios. But that scenario doesn’t seem likely given the full slate of TV shows the studio is already working on. And to top that off, Helstrom wasn’t well-received by critics, which means it likely won’t get the award-season buzz it needs to stay relevant.

However, if the show gets enough fan appreciation and hype — it does have a Rotten Tomatoes audience score of 86 percent — there is a tiny, tiny chance Marvel Studios will pick it up. But for now, that scenario doesn’t seem very likely.
