The shore may never be the same. When Jersey Shore: Family Vacation returns for its fourth season on Nov. 19, a familiar face will be missing. Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi has left the show after deciding she couldn’t handle the drama and wanted to spend more time with her family. But is Snooki really done with Jersey Shore for good?

Snooki dropped a bombshell on Jersey Shore fans in late 2019 when she announced she was quitting the MTV show

“I am retiring from Jersey Shore,” she said on the Dec 6 episode of her podcast,  It’s Happening with Snooki and Joey. “The main reason is really…. I just can’t do it anymore. Literally, leaving my kids to film it is really hard on me. I try and quit every single day. I just hate being away from the kids … It’s just not my life anymore.”

While Snooki has left Jersey Shore behind, she’s still friends with most of her old roommates. Could that mean that she might one day return to the show? Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino hopes so.

“We’re still leaving the door open for her return,” he told E! News ahead of the season 4 premiere. “She’s a legend and I’m going to remain positive. I think maybe in the next year, we might see her come back in some capacity.”

“I’m being hopeful,” he added.

Not having Snooki around during filming for season 4 was definitely an adjustment for the cast. Her good friend Jenni “JWoww” Farley came up with a strategy for dealing with Polizzi’s absence. She “just pretended [Snooki] was sleeping the whole time,” she told E!

“I’ll never accept Nicole not coming back,” JWoww added. “[She] slept by me for over 10 years so if there’s a way, we will get her back.”

Previously, Farley hinted that she might follow her friend’s lead and quit Jersey Shore: Family Vacation.

“I am way to ride or die to see you leave,” she tweeted on June 18, after the explosive season 3 finale. In that episode, Snooki declared she was done after a massive blow-up at Angelina Pivarnick’s wedding over a racy wedding toast. “If you’re done, I’m done. There’s no Jwoww without my Snooki,” Farley added.

Farley did ultimately decide to return to Jersey Shore: Family Vacation. “Despite the rumors, I’ve made the decision to stick with the show and reunite once again with my second family,” she wrote on her website, Miss Domesticated. But whether the show still has the same vibe sans Snooki remains to be seen.

Jersey Shore: Family Vacation Season 4 premieres Thursday, Nov. 19 at 8 p.m. ET on MTV.
