Silk Sonic and ‘Leave the Door Open’ won the 2022 Grammy Award for Song of the Year

As one of the night’s first awards, “Leave the Door Open” by Silk Sonic won the 2022 Grammy Award for Song of the Year. The duo of Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak danced up to the stage to accept the award with their collaborator. They received a standing ovation from Bieber and other songwriters.

Mars approached the microphone with the Grammy in hand, thanking “everyone” that helped create the 2021 album. He also thanked the fans, saying that now these two will be singing “Leave the Door Open” “forever.”

Artists Lil Nas X, Silk Sonic, Billie Eilish, Olivia Rodrigo, and more were nominated for the 2022 Grammy Award Song of the Year

The 2022 Grammy Awards ceremony was postponed due to coronavirus (COVID-19) safety concerns. In April, many stars took to the stage, performing original songs and receiving recognition for their work released in the past year.

There were several nominees in the Song of the Year category, which recognizes “the composition of a song and recognizes the songwriters who wrote the song,” according to the Grammy’s website.

The artists nominated for Song of the Year at this year’s ceremony included Ed Sheeran (“Bad Habits”), Alicia Keys feat. Brandi Carlile (“A Beautiful Noise”), Olivia Rodrigo (“drivers license”), H.E.R. (“Fight for You”), Billie Eilish (“Happier Than Ever”), Doja Cat feat. SZA (“Kiss Me More”), Silk Sonic (“Leave The Door Open”), Lil Nas X (“MONTERO [Call Me By Your Name]”), Justin Bieber feat. Daniel Caesar and Giveon (“Peaches”), and Brandi Carlile (“Right On Time”).

Showbiz Cheat Sheet predicted “Drivers License” would take home the award, with Rodrigo earning the MTV Video Music Award for Push Performance of the Year with the same song. Silk Sonic’s “Leave the Door Open” was also a strong contender, with the song snagging over 770 million Spotify plays since its debut.
