Yellowjackets has taken creepy storytelling to a new level. The Showtime drama follows a high school soccer team after their plane goes down in the woods of Ontario in 1996, finding them isolated and forced to do unimaginable things to survive. The teammates were saved after 19 months. But they continue to deal with the trauma of what happened in the wilderness over two decades later.

The finale of Yellowjackets Season 1 wasn’t able to resolve all the loose ends. But the good news is, Yellowjackets Season 2 is happening. Here’s everything we know about it so far, from the plot to the release window.

What happened in ‘Yellowjackets’ Season 1 Episode 10

The latest episode picked up after Adam’s death. It found the known survivors celebrating at their 25th high school reunion, where there was a slideshow of photos including Jackie. A flashback revealed that Jackie got into a fight with the other girls over prom and was forced to sleep outside, resulting in her freezing to death.

Present-day Natalie was about to end her own life when cult members kidnapped her. In the process, she got a voicemail from Suzie claiming Lottie was the one who emptied Travis’ bank account.

Another strange thing happened with the reveal of Taissa’s sacrificial altar, which may or may not have helped her win the election. But perhaps the biggest surprise came in the final moments, when Lottie took the heart of a bear she killed and used it in a ritualistic ceremony. Joined by Van and Misty, she prayed to “the darkness [to] set us free.”

The creators of ‘Yellowjackets’ discuss season 2

In a string of interviews released after the finale, creators Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson confirmed work on the second season of Yellowjackets has already begun. While they were careful not to say too much, Lyle teased next season would dig more into the cult.

“We are very much interested in exploring the theme and concept of belief and what that means for us in terms of our worldview — the way that we interact with the world around us, the way that we interact with other people, and forge those relationships,” Lyle told Entertainment Weekly.

“That is absolutely something that we will be investigating by means of this growing belief that has started to emerge amongst the girls in the wilderness and what that might mean in the present day,” Lyle continued.

Season 2 to also reveal other survivors

The creators also confirmed that there are more survivors than those who appeared in the first season. Their identities are, of course, a secret until season 2, but casting is underway.

“We’re in early stages,” Lyle told Vulture of the casting process. “We have not cast anybody yet. And people have made some really brilliant suggestions. We were joking earlier, like, if enough people say it, maybe they are legally bound: You’ve been drafted by the internet, you have to be in our show, so buckle up. Unfortunately, that is not how the world works, but that’s something we’re very excited about moving into season two.”

While the exact release date for Yellowjackets Season 2 is unknown, Showtime executive Gary Levine previously told Vulture the show would return “at the end of 2022.” Until then, stream the first season now on Showtime.
