The season 3 finale of Paramount’s western drama Yellowstone left the fate of four major characters in question. Since the episode aired, numerous fan theories have been making their rounds on the internet about who possibly lived and died. Many are concerned that family patriarch John Dutton (Kevin Costner) didn’t survive the finale. But a new report claims Costner was just spotted on set for season 4.

‘Yellowstone’ fans want to know who shot John Dutton

As Express recalls, the final minutes of season 3 saw John stop on the side of the road to help a woman with her car. But as he was standing there, someone pulled up next to him and shot John multiple times. As the finale came to an end, John was left for dead while bleeding out.

With John’s cell phone stopping the bullet from entering his heart, he most likely survived. But it’s not a guarantee.

Meanwhile, there were two separate attacks on John’s children – Kayce and Beth. Kayce (Luke Grimes) was also shot, and Beth (Kelly Reilly) was in her office when a suspicious package exploded. A popular fan theory is that Jamie (Wes Bentley) was the mastermind behind the attacks.

After confronting his real father and finding out the truth about his past, it’s possible Jamie is involved. Other suspects include his biological father Garrett Randall (Will Patton) and rival ranch owner Roarke Morris (Josh Holloway).

Set leaks seemingly confirm Kevin Costner’s return for season 4

The other main character whose life is in danger is Jimmy Hurdstrom (Jefferson White). After getting kicked off of a horse, the last fans saw of Jimmy was him lying face down in a ditch. The finale ended without confirming that any of the four characters survived.

The cast and crew are now back to work shooting season 4 in Montana. According to Express, an insider on Reddit has claimed that Costner, Reilly, and Grimes are on set. But there was no mention of White. Neither Paramount Movie Network nor showrunner Taylor Sheridan have confirmed the set leak.

“So I have a friend who is actually an extra on set for season 4. BTW, if you live in MT, you can still sign up to be an extra,” Redditor boogaloobrigadier wrote. “So, from what he’s told me, John and Beth are alive. Seems like they’ll both be fine, but Beth is just in quite a bit of shock. I know a lot of people are worried, but that might clear some of it up. Don’t have anything else beyond this point.”

Kevin Costner drops hint about his future on ‘Yellowstone’

While the speculation about John Dutton’s survival continues on social media, Costner seemingly dropped a hint about his future on Yellowstone during a recent interview. In late August, the Oscar winner told The Daily Beast that he was in Montana’s Bitterroot Valley. That is the location of Yellowstone’s shoot.

Costner admitted to Good Housekeeping around that time that shooting Yellowstone is incredibly difficult for him. He said that it keeps him away from home, and he wants to be home every moment he can. But since they shoot in Montana, it makes going home impossible.

Costner explained that it takes all-day to get there, then all-day to return because it takes two airplanes. Plus, there are COVID-19 restrictions. Despite the travel issues, Costner did say that Yellowstone is part of his plans for how he wants to play out the second half of his career.

Season 4 of Yellowstone is expected to premiere on Paramount Movie Network in the summer of 2021.
