‘Yellowstone’ Season 4: Luke Grimes Hints There Could Be More Trouble Ahead For Kayce and Monica

'Yellowston' fans have a lot to worry about heading into season 4. The explosive season 3 finale left John, Kayce, and Beth Dutton fighting for their lives. But even if all three survive, that doesn't mean all is well with the Dutton family. According to Grimes, there could be trouble ahead for Kayce and Monica.

Yellowstone fans have a lot to worry about heading into season 4. The explosive season 3 finale left John (Kevin Costner), Kayce (Luke Grimes), and Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) fighting for their lives. But even if all three survive, that doesn’t mean all is well with the Dutton family. According to Grimes, there could be trouble ahead for Kayce and Monica (Kelsey Asbille).

Did John and Kayce Dutton survive the ‘Yellowstone’ season 3 finale?

Grimes says that one of his favorite parts of Yellowstone is that they have a lot of flashbacks. He explained to Monsters & Critics that this storytelling method has allowed fans to not only see the characters as they are in the present, but also how they got there.

As the series has unfolded, Grimes says that fans have had the chance to figure out more and more why Kayce’s relationship with his dad is strained. He also seemed to imply that both characters survived the season 3 finale because their relationship continues into season 4. Of course, it’s possible he and Costner just filmed flashbacks.

“I think in the last couple of seasons, and even into the upcoming season 4, there’s always a pattern of them mending that, seeing eye-to-eye, and figuring each other out. Those have actually been some of my favorite scenes, just filling each other in on who they’ve become,” Grimes said.

Kayce and Monica have been through a lot in the first 3 seasons

Season 3 found Kayce and Monica in a good place in their relationship after a traumatic season 2. Grimes says he was wondering how the kidnapping of their son would affect the couple, but he had no idea what to expect. Ultimately, it ended up bringing them closer together.

“We’ve seen them go through a lot,” Grimes shared. “With Tate disappearing, I was wondering how that was going to affect them. I had no idea what to expect before reading season 3 because it could have gone either way.”

The ‘Yellowstone’ star hints that trouble is ahead for Kayce and Monica

The actor explained that he’s always thought that Kayce and Monica were “twin souls” after reading their love story. But that doesn’t mean they will live happily ever after.

“I’ve always just thought when I read that storyline and that love story that they’re twin souls,” Grimes confessed. “They were meant for each other, but the weight of the world has always gotten in the middle. It’s kind of that classic Romeo and Juliet storyline.”

The Romeo & Juliet comparison doesn’t look good

Comparing Kayce and Monica’s love story to Romeo and Juliet seemingly hints that trouble is ahead for the couple. However, Grimes is sure that the love will always be there.

“I think what we’ll continue to see with them is that there’s such a true love at their core, and at their core, they’re both such good spirits that they’ll always be attracted to each other,” Grimes said.

You never know where the ‘Yellowstone’ will go

Grimes admits that he always gets himself “in hot water” when he starts talking about future episodes.  He did, however, tell fans to “expect more of the same,” which means “you never know where this show’s going to go.”

“I think that’s what’s so brilliant about the writing,” Grimes said. “Even working on it, it’s never where I think it’s going to go. Taylor always finds some new avenue to go down or explore some new thing that you just didn’t see coming. I think that’s why people are so drawn into it.”
