The Young and the Restless is one of the most-loved daytime soap operas of all time. It debuted in the 1970s, when television was going through its golden age, and has remained a mainstay in programming to this day.

These days, fans are finding new reasons to love The Young and the Restless, now that the COVID-19 pandemic has forced everyone to spend a good deal more time indoors. Recently, some fans took to social media to share one of their favorite things about the show, one that involves the show’s beloved couple, Paul and Christine.

Set in the fictional region of Genoa City, Wisconsin, The Young and the Restless premiered in 1973. The show started out as a half-hour serial, eventually expanding to one-hour episodes due to overwhelming audience demand.

The Young and the Restless was conceived as a sister show to The Bold and the Beautiful, and over the years, many of the characters from both shows have crossed over, creating diverging storylines that have been well-received by both critics and fans.

The Young and the Restless has broken many barriers in the world of television over the years and has won numerous awards for excellence in both writing and acting.

Although many critics have slammed soap operas as a genre, The Young and the Restless has proven, time and time again, that soap operas deserve a seat at the table when it comes to the history and future of television.

Paul and Christine are one of the show’s most popular couples

Most soap operas focus heavily on romantic storylines, and The Young and the Restless is no exception. There are many fan-favorite couples on the show, but over the years, one couple, in particular, has managed to steal the spotlight.

Christine Blair and Paul Williams have enjoyed a romance that has spanned decades, and remains as popular with viewers as when they first got together in the nineties.

Christine, played by Lauralee Bell, first got involved in the early nineties, after the dissolution of her marriage to rock singer Danny. The two remained happily married for five years before splitting up amicably.

Still, the seeds of romance lingered, and eventually, years after they first decided to split, Paul and Christine reunited and have since lived happily ever after — although not without the drama for which The Young and the Restless has become so well known.

Soap operas often film on small soundstages and sets, and typically work with rather limited budgets. Still, The Young and the Restless rarely follows the rules established by other, less-popular daytime soaps, and occasionally films on location in various cities around the United States.

Most notably, there was a series of episodes centering around Paul and Christine’s romance that were filmed in Pittsburgh.

Recently, some fans spoke out on Twitter, raving about how much they loved those episodes, in particular.

“I’m in Pittsburgh, loved seeing the Grant Street scene with Paul and Christine (and oooh that Phyllis lol) again. We love hosting the Y&R cast and crew. Come back again after the pandemic is over!” one fan posted, while others pointed out some historic sights of the city that are visible in the episode.

Of course, many fans also reiterated how much they love the pairing of Paul and Christine, one of the show’s classic couples. “(Heart) Paul and Christine: one of my fave Y&R couples,” one fan raved.
