’16 and Pregnant’ Alum Nikkole Ledda Shares Heartbreaking Baby News
Nikkole Ledda from 16 and Pregnant was preparing to welcome baby no. 4 to her family. Then she got some heartbreaking news.
In a June 18 Instagram update, Nikkole revealed that she’d experienced a pregnancy loss just weeks after learning she was expecting again.
“We were supposed to have a baby, but we got an angel instead,” she captioned the post.
Nikkole Ledda was excited to welcome another baby
In a video, Nikkole – who appeared on season 2 of the MTV reality show in 2010, with her then-boyfriend Josh Drummonds – shared highlights from her brief pregnancy journey. First came the excitement of learning she was expecting her second child with husband Kyle Ledda, whom she married in 2020. (She also has a son with Josh and a daughter with ex-boyfriend Ryan Rice.) But there were early warning signs that things might not be going well with the pregnancy, which gave Nikkole pause.
“I’m four and a half weeks,” she says in the clip. “But I’m spotting. My doctor’s office said it’s probably nothing, but I’m feeling really worried. (Bleeding in early pregnancy is common and not always a cause for alarm, according to the Mayo Clinic. But it can be a symptom of miscarriage or other conditions that require treatment, such as an ectopic pregnancy.)
A week and a half later, the Michigan native was definitely experiencing classic pregnancy symptoms.
“I’m seriously feeling more and more pregnant every single day,” she said. “The nausea is just so bad.”
‘16 and Pregnant’ alum gets sad news during her ultrasound appointment
At eight weeks, Nikkole went in for her first ultrasound. She was “nervous” heading into the appointment, saying that she “couldn’t shake this feeling that something’s wrong.”
While her ultrasound did confirm her pregnancy, the baby was smaller than expected, and its heartbeat was worryingly slow.
A week later, Nikkole received the devastating news that her pregnancy was not viable.
“So, I’m at nine weeks today and the baby no longer has a heartbeat,” she said.
Many commenters related to Nikkole’s story of losing a pregnancy.
“Going through an early loss myself this very moment, the second time where my anxiety told me something was off and it was…I can imagine it’s even harder being about to see that little heartbeat first,” one person wrote. “My heart goes out to you both!”
“Feel you girl,” another commented. “Just went through this at 14 weeks. Praying for you and your family.”
“Have been in your shoes so sorry for your loss, I know it doesn’t make it easier,” another person shared. “Be good to yourself.”
