’90 Day Fiancé’: The Sweet Story Behind Alliya’s Controversial Wedding Dress
Shawn and Allliya are husband and wife! The couple tied the knot in the June 8 episode of 90 Day Fiancé. But their big day almost didn’t happen. Shawn, 62, was on the verge of calling the whole thing off when his wife-to-be was nearly two hours late to their ceremony.
One reason Alliya, 25, took so long to make it down the aisle? She was busy putting the final touches on her dramatic wedding day look. The Brazilian bride’s risqué dress raised the eyebrows of many viewers, but she had a good reason for choosing the gown, she explained on social media.
Alliya’s wedding dress was inspired by Cher
Alliya wanted to do something special for Shawn, a celebrity hairstylist and makeup artist, on their wedding day. She decided to pay tribute to one of his favorite artists through her revealing sheer gown.
One of Shawn’s “greatest loves” is Cher, a narrator explained a video Alliya shared on Instagram. “So for Alliya, paying tribute to that on their wedding day meant everything. She wanted to surprise him in the most iconic way,” the voiceover continued.
Decades before Bianca Censori made headlines with her completely see-through dress at the 2025 Grammys, the Mermaids star turned heads with a sheer Bob Mackie dress at the 1974 Met Gala. Alliya’s custom gown by Maison Deloree referenced that iconic look.
“I loved knowing this background on your iconic dress! What a story!” commented fellow 90 Day star Shekinah.
Did Alliya’s tardiness ruin her wedding to Shawn?
Shawn knew that Alliya was planning something big for her wedding day look. But her tardiness left her future husband more frustrated than enchanted. After waiting an hour and 45 minutes for Alliya to make her appearance at the altar, a “furious” Shawn finally went to confront her.
“I don’t know that culturally people in Brazil show up whenever they want to a wedding but when I first put my eyes on her and saw her at the top of the stairs, I am so mad at them and so angry,” he told a 90 Day producer.
What was supposed to be a magical first look was anything but, he added.
“Here she is in her dress,” Shawn continued. “We’ve spent so much time planning that dress, talking about that dress, talking about this moment, not looking at it, not peeking at it, not knowing what it was going to looking like, and now I’m seeing it and…”
With the clock ticking at their venue, Shawn asked the officiant skip straight to the end of the ceremony. After a brief exchange of vows and rings, Shawn and Alliya were pronounced husband and wife. But neither looked thrilled about it.
Shawn was consumed by worry for his mother, who had fallen and injured her hip earlier in the day. He was also concerned about having made their guests wait so long outside in triple-digit heat. Meanwhile, Alliya confessed that she was “a little bit disappointed” that the ceremony was so fast.
