Jax Taylor made the right call when he decided to step away from filming future episodes of The Valley, Andy Cohen says.

On July 16, Jax announced that he would be leaving the Bravo reality series at the end of season 2 in order to focus on his sobriety and mental health. But the Vanderpump Rules alum will still be part of the upcoming season 2 reunion, and he’ll definitely be in the hot seat, host Cohen promised.

Cohen reacted to Jax’s departure from The Valley during the July 18 episode of his SiriusXM radio show, Andy Cohen Live.

“Jax announced yesterday that he’s going to be stepping away from The Valley. I’m very pleased with his decision and I think it is reading the room well,” the Bravo producer said. “And I think, the most important thing is that I hope that he can work on all of his issues.”

Cohen went on to say that Jax’s troubling behavior – which includes drug abuse and allegedly threatening his wife, The Valley co-star Brittany Cartwright – will be addressed during the reunion special, which filmed in early May.

“This comes up at the reunion,” he continued. “I have kind of a serious conversation with [Jax] about his need for control and his anger issues and what it’s going to take to get to a better place with Brittany and you know, in the world. And I hope that he takes the time to lean into this away from the cameras.”

Andy Cohen thinks Jax is ‘committed’ to his sobriety

Jax’s issues with substance abuse have been a major storyline in The Valley Season 2. Early in the season, he entered rehab in an attempt to address his issues. But that wasn’t enough to save his marriage, and Brittany filed for divorce soon after he returned home.

Jax’s recent struggles seem to have been a wake-up call for the 46-year-old. Cohen said he believed the reality star wanted to turn his life around.

“He seems very committed, from our conversations, to his sobriety,” Cohen said. “And I hope time away from the cameras will further encourage that and further encourage him to get it together.”

Jax’s exit from The Valley comes “after an incredibly challenging year,” he said when announcing his departure from the show.

Following “many honest conversations with my team and producers, I’ll be stepping away from the next season of The Valley,” Jax continued in the statement shared with Bravo’s Daily Dish. “Right now, my focus needs to be on my sobriety, my mental health, and coparenting. Taking this time is necessary for me to become the best version of myself — especially for our son, Cruz.”

The Valley Season 2 airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Bravo. Episodes stream the next day on Peacock.
