Angelina Jolie’s Possible U.S. Departure: Timing and Details
Oscar‑winning actor and humanitarian Angelina Jolie is reportedly preparing for a significant life transition after decades based in the United States. Sources claim she plans to relocate abroad once her youngest children reach adulthood. Insiders say Jolie, 50, has long dreamed of living outside of Los Angeles but remained in the U.S. because of custody arrangements with her ex‑husband Brad Pitt. So, when will Jolie leave the U.S.? Here’s what to know.
Angelina Jolie could permanently leave the U.S. as soon as July 2026
Award-winning actor Angelina Jolie remains based in Los Angeles as of February 2026. She’s lived in LA with her six children since before her divorce from Brad Pitt was finalized in December 2024. She and Pitt share three biological children: Shiloh and the twins, Knox and Vivienne. And the exes have three adopted children: Maddox, Pax, and Zahara. The house in the Los Feliz neighborhood has served as their family home for years. One of her older sons now resides in a New York City apartment she once owned, which has become a “crash pad” for Jolie’s children when they’re in town. Meanwhile, she has continued to juggle life between California, international travels, and raising her now mostly adult family.
Rumblings of Jolie leaving LA have persisted since August 2025. A source told People that Jolie planned to “put the house up for sale” while exploring her options for living abroad. The source alleged that the actor “never wanted to live in L.A. full-time. She didn’t have a choice because of the custody arrangement with Brad.”
So, when does Jolie plan to make the big move? She “plans to relocate as soon as Knox and Viv turn 18 next year,” the insider continued. “She’s eyeing several locations abroad. She’ll be very happy when she’s able to leave Los Angeles.”
In September 2025, Jolie said during a press conference that she no longer recognizes her home country.
“I love my country, but at this time, I don’t recognize my country,” she said at the 73rd San Sebastián International Film Festival, according to Variety. “I’ve always lived internationally, my family is international, my friends, my life…. My worldview is equal, united, and international. Anything anywhere that divides or limits personal expressions and freedoms from anyone, I think, is very dangerous. These are such serious times that we have to be careful not to say things casually. These are very, very heavy times we are living in together.”
Knox and Vivienne turn 18 on July 12, 2026. With this in mind, it seems likely that Jolie will aim for a U.S. departure around this time.
