Angie Katsanevas Compares Lisa Barlow to Jen Shah in ‘RHOSLC’ Season 6 Premiere
The messiest ladies in Utah are back on TV.
Season 6 of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake city premiered Tuesday on Bravo. In the premiere, the cast hopped in Angie Kastenevas’ RV for an outdoorsy girls trip that included kayaking, fishing, and a Blair Witch-esque nighttime hike.
But one person was conspicuously absent from Angie and Mary Cosby’s “Class A Getaway.” Lisa Barlow opted out of the camping trip because she had a work conflict and her dislike of co-star Bronwyn Newport – or so she claimed. Several of her fellow cast members weren’t buying that excuse, as speculation swirled that Lisa was avoiding the group because of her mounting legal problems.
Lisa Barlow skips ‘RHOSLC’ girls’ trip because of ‘pathological liar’ Bronwyn Newport
The absent Lisa quickly became a topic of discussion in the September 16 episode of RHOSLC,
“I think the bigger thing here that’s weird is that Lisa didn’t join our trip,” Angie said as the group ate lunch around a picnic table.
Earlier, Lisa had told Angie in a phone call that she was skipping the trip because she didn’t want to see “pathological liar” Bronwyn Newport. She also claimed that she had “a work thing” that was “a big deal.”
“I’m not gonna drop named, but I’ll be with Ben [Affleck] and Blake [Lively],” Lisa said.
But Lisa’s Bravo co-stars weren’t convinced she was really hobnobbing with Hollywood royalty.
“It’s probably Bronwyn, because we know she’s not working,” Whitney Rose said as they headed out to Provo Canyon.
“When someone plans a girls’ trip, you go,” Heather Gay told a producer. “And when you don’t go, it’s to make a statement.”
Angie Katsanevas makes shocking claim about Lisa Barlow
Lisa blamed work and bad vibes with Bronwyn for skipping the trip. But some of the RHOSLC cast thought she didn’t want to get grilled about her legal problems.
“She hasn’t shared anything with me, but I read what’s online, and there’s a lot out there,” Whitney Rose told the group at lunch, adding that there were “a lot of people” with “crazy accusations.”
Lisa’s nemesis Bronwyn found the timing of her work obligations suspicious.
“Interesting time for Lisa to be too busy to go on a free girls trip,” she said in an interview. “Maybe she’s too busy reading about herself in the press with all of her lawsuits. It’s just very convenient timing for Lisa’s schedule to be maxed out.”
Bronwyn then told the group that she knew of “at least five lawsuits” against Lisa, her husband John Barlow, or their businesses. In one of those lawsuits, a man accused accused Lisa and her husband of not paying back $400,000 they borrowed for their tequila business. That lawsuit was later dismissed. The status of the other cases is unclear.
“It’s definitely out there,” Mary confirmed.
Heather tried to come to Lisa’s defense, saying she didn’t know anything about her fellow Bravo star’s legal mess. Angie wasn’t buying it. “I think Stevie Wonder saw it,” she said in an interview.
Then, Angie made a jaw-dropping comparison.
“One might say that it’s similar to what Jen Shah did,” she said, referring to the disgraced RHOSLC cast member who is currently serving federal time for running a telemarketing fraud scheme.
But Lisa’s situation isn’t anything like Jen’s, according to Meredith Marks.
“I don’t even understand Angie’s analogy,” she said in an interview. “These are not criminal charges. This is a civil lawsuit that has yet to go to trial, yet to have anything proved. The state of Utah is not coming after Lisa Barlow. Nor is the United States of America.”
Heather Gay doesn’t want to ‘unearth’ Jen Shah’s spirit
Heather was also stunned that Angie would compare Lisa and Jen.
“Why are we even talking about Jen Shah? We shouldn’t be talking about. We shouldn’t say her name. We shouldn’t unearth her spirit. She’s in prison, where she belongs,” she told a producer.
Lisa’s pot-stirring has caused drama among the RHOSLC ladies in the past. That’s one reason why the group seemed to eager to speculate about her dirty laundry, at least according to Angie.
“She happens to have information on everyone’s finances, marriages, businesses, documents. Like I can see how you feel you had to say, ‘Well, I know this about you too,’” she said to Bronwyn.
Angie added that she had no regrets about gossiping about Lisa behind her back.
“I’m not saying anything I won’t say to her face,” she said. “I’ll tell her we talked about. I’ll tell her it came up.”
The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Bravo. Episodes stream the next day on Peacock.
