Jeremy Renner expresses ‘deep gratitude’ after ‘Mayor of Kingstown’ renewal

“I find myself in deep gratitude this gorgeous morning,” series star Jeremy Renner captioned a January 5 Instagram video where he reflected on the three-year anniversary of his near-fatal snowplow accident. “After a rebirth, today announcing a renewal of @mayorofkingstown season 5 …what a blessing …. And it’s all because of the amazing dedicated fans Thank you.”
The last season of the crime drama will have eight episodes. Renner and new cast member Edie Falco will both return for season 5, as will Lennie James, Laura Benanti, Hugh Dillon, Taylor Handley, Tobi Bamtefa, Derek Webster, Hamish Allan- Headley, and Nishi Munshi.
Sheridan co-created the show with Hugh Dillon; he is also an executive producer of the series.
The Mayor of Kingstown Season 4 finale dropped on December 28. In the fourth season, , Mike’s (Renner) control over Kingstown was threatened as new players competed to fill the power vacuum left in the Russians’ wake, compelling him to confront the resulting gang war and stop them from swallowing the town. Meanwhile, with those he loves in more danger than ever before, Mike had to contend with a headstrong new warden (Falco) to protect his own while grappling with demons from his past.
Taylor Sheridan struck new deal with NBCUniversal
The end of Mayor of Kingstown comes a little over a year after Sheridan’s hit series Yellowstone wrapped up its five-season run on Paramount Network. It’s also Sheridan’s first Paramount+ show to end since he announced he’d struck a new film and TV deal with NBCUniversal. It begins in 2029, after his current arrangement with Paramount concludes in 2028.
While popular with many viewers, Mayor of Kingstown has not been as successful as Sheridan’s other Paramount+ shows, including Landman (currently in its second season) and Tulsa King with Sylvester Stallone, noted Deadline. Sheridan is also the creator of Lioness, which was renewed for a third season in 2025, the Yellowstone prequel miniseries 1883 and 1923, and the upcoming Yellowstone spinoff Y: Marshals, which premieres in March 2026 on CBS.
Mayor of Kingstown is streaming on Paramount+.
