A$AP Rocky and Rihanna have built a family life that feels both glamorous and grounded, blending their superstar status with the everyday joys of parenthood. Since welcoming their two children, RZA and Riot, the couple has often shared glimpses of their home life that highlight their deep love for each other and their devotion as parents. While Rihanna has called motherhood the most transformative experience of her life, Rocky has spoken about how fatherhood has reshaped his priorities and friendships. Here’s what he said about how his friends viewed him before Rihanna had their first child.

A$AP Rocky said his friends would have to ‘adjust’ to seeing him as a dad

Rihanna and A$AP Rocky continue to embrace family life with open arms as they prepare to welcome their third child, revealed during Rihanna’s dramatic Met Gala appearance in May 2025. The couple already shares two young sons: RZA Athelston Mayers, born in May 2022 and now three years old, and Riot Rose Mayers, who arrived in August 2023 and is two years old.

In 2022, before the birth of RZA, Rocky talked about becoming a first-time father. While speaking to Jerrod Carmichael for Interview Magazine, Rocky said his old friends would have to adjust to seeing him in his new role as a dad.

“I’m not nervous,” Rocky said, “but I crack up at the fact that people who knew me before, such as yourself, are going to have to adjust to seeing me as a responsible dad.”

Toward the end of the interview, Rocky and Carmichael discussed heavy topics, like death. Carmichael said he wanted to “end on a brighter note,” and again mentioned how Rocky would be a dad soon enough.

“But you’re on a countdown to fatherhood, bro,” he said. “You’ve got daddy things to do.”

With a third baby on the way, A$AP Rocky is fully embracing fatherhood. He told Vogue in April 2025 that he’s in full “dad swag” mode, and he absolutely loves that his family with Rihanna has become his priority.

“Becoming a father really helped me get my dad swag,” he said. “… I’m on that dad swag. I love it! It stepped me up, honestly.”

Rocky noted that he doesn’t sweat it if he goes out, because he always has a valid excuse to leave early.

“Like, I could justify doing things like not going to the club, or just leaving after five minutes and s*** like that — doing old people s***,” he told Vogue. “You know, just for the sake of it. I act tired, and I wouldn’t be tired. ‘Oh, my back hurts, let me sit down.’ Dad swag on full! They can’t f*** with me, man.”

A$AP Rocky says he’s been ‘prepared to be a dad his whole life’ thanks to his own father

A$AP Rocky’s father, Adrian “Duke” Mayers, a Barbadian immigrant, was incarcerated when Rocky was about 12. Rocky faced upheaval from a young age. Despite these hardships, his father’s words left a lasting impact. Rocky has often recalled how his dad emphasized the importance of being true to oneself and trusting your own choices — advice he “ran with” and still applies in both life and artistry. After his father’s passing in December 2012, Rocky publicly paid tribute, mourning the loss with raw sincerity. “R.I.P DAD, UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN … HE BE DA REALIST G,” he posted to Instagram.

While speaking on The Run-Through With Vogue podcast, Rocky recalled his “proud” father and how his dad prepared him to have children of his own.

“For me, my dad was a proud dad,” the rapper recalled. “He taught me everything I know, especially how to be a gentleman and whatnot, so I was prepared to be a dad my whole life, man, you know? I’m ready, and I’m 36 going on 37, man. These clothes suit me well.”
