Attention, ‘Bridgerton’ Fans: A Must-Watch Sexy Regency Drama With Theo James Is Coming to Free Streaming on PBS
Will Sophie (Yerin Ha) and Benedict (Luke Thompson) get their fairy-tale ending? Part one of the fourth season of swoon-worthy drama Bridgerton dropped January 29 on Netflix. It set up the Cinderella-esque romance between the bohemian Bridgerton brother and the resourceful maid with a complicated past. But the streamer is making fans wait to find out if the pair can overcome their differences – part 2 won’t stream until February 26.
While you could spend the intervening weeks quietly yearning (and rewatching part 2’s steamy trailer), we have another suggestion. In honor of the most romantic month of the year, PBS is making one of its most popular series in years – which some have declared “better than Bridgerton” — available to stream for free starting on Valentine’s Day.
Based on Jane Austen’s final and unfinished novel, Sanditon tells the story of Charlotte Heywood (Rose Williams), a spirited and somewhat impulsive young woman who travels from her rural English home to an up-and-coming seaside resort town to reinvent herself. There, she meets new friends, as well as the brooding Sidney Parker (Theo James), with whom she soon develops an intense connection. The sexy Regency romance raised eyebrows for some racy scenes when it was first release. But now it seems it was just paving the way for Netflix’s massive hit, which is set in its own, alternate-reality version of Regency England.
Sanditon originally aired on ITV in the U.K. in 2019. But the broadcaster canceled the show before it made its debut on PBS in the U.S. in early 2020. Many viewers were devastated to discover that they’d never get to learn the end of Charlotte’s story, and after an outpouring of support, the show was revived in 2022. A third and final season aired in 2023.
Now, in tribute to that display of love for their favorite show, the public broadcaster is paying it back and pulling Sanditon out from behind the paywall. From February 14 to March 14, all three seasons of Sanditon on Masterpiece will be available to stream free for all viewers on PBS.org and the PBS app. Trust us, it’s the perfect binge-watch during the most romantic month of the year.
