‘Bachelor in Paradise’: Jill Chin Says She Was Promised ‘Older Men’ with ‘Established Jobs’
Jill Chin wasn’t initially planning on popping up in paradise. Having just gone through a breakup, the 29-year-old architectural historian was already feeling a bit low. Still, she agreed when Bachelor in Paradise producers came calling. It didn’t work out. The Bachelor Nation alum famously self-eliminated from the competition when she realized her prince charming was not in Costa Rica. While fans were largely shocked by her sudden departure, Chin insists it wasn’t completely out of the blue. She hadn’t even really planned on participating in the series, but opted in when show executives made her promises about the contestants who would be there. Jill Chin said Bachelor in Paradise didn’t come through on what the producers promised.
Jill Chin left ‘Bachelor in Paradise’ on her own
The Bachelor cast-off, Jill Chin, came into Bachelor in Paradise seeming a bit dejected. As a late arrival, Jill was already at a disadvantage, and she seemed pretty disappointed by the men available. She made a brief play for Jonathan Johnson, but it was clear the passion just wasn’t there, and they had absolutely no connection. She later connected with Sean McLaughlin, a 28-year-old software sales rep. On paper, he seemed to have it together, but Jil admitted she didn’t see a connection forming.

After a group event made Jill question Sean’s interest in her, she opted to leave the competition, much to the surprise of the show’s other contestants. Jill had previously insisted she was having a good time and liked getting to know Sean. Was Sean’s behavior the catalyst to her departure, or was there something more? According to Jill, Sean was only part of the problem.
The Bachelor Nation alum said producers didn’t deliver on their promises
Jill’s decision to self-eliminate seemed to have been made after Sean McLaughlin showed interest in a new arrival. That might have been the final straw, but Jill recently revealed that she left because she felt the production team had misled her. During an appearance on Bachelor Happy Hour to break down her departure, she admitted to realizing the type of men she was looking for were not on the island. She suggested the producers may have stretched the truth about other contestants.
During the chat, Jill claimed she told producers during negotiations that she was looking for older, more established men. The production team told her there would be plenty of older men on the island who had established careers. When she arrived, that was not the case. Jill said only one man who truly fit the bill, and he simply was not her style. She pointed to Dale Moss, a 36-year-old model and actor, as the only contestant who actually fit her criteria. However, a closer look at the roster of contestants revealed several men who were a bit older. They were just already paired up when she arrived. It’s unclear if Chin would return for another shot at love, but fans have been clamoring about giving her her own season of The Bachelorette. The series is currently on hiatus, but the idea is good.
