Bachelor Nation Alum Calls ‘Bachelor in Paradise’ a ‘Temu Love Island’
When Bachelor in Paradise season 9 ended, ABC did not immediately make plans for the show’s 10th season. There was fear from fans that a cancellation was imminent. That didn’t happen. Instead, the series took a break and was retooled to appeal to a broader audience. It returned this month, and while fans are largely happy with the altered format and the inclusion of golden contestants, not everyone is. One Bachelor Nation alum is unhappy with how the series he once competed in has evolved. Tanner Tolbert called the reimagined dating competition “Temu Love Island.” He is not a fan.
Tanner Tolbert criticizes ‘Bachelor in Paradise’
Tanner Tolbert tuned in for Bachelor in Paradise season 10, but clearly he did not like what he saw. The Bachelor Nation alum took to his Instagram stories to offer his own critique of the series. Tolbert said that the latest installment of Bachelor in Paradise is just a “Temu Love Island.” He went on to complain about the drama and the resort, saying the series felt “stale,” despite having been recently revamped. Swooon grabbed screenshots of his critical review.
While ABC is largely considered a pioneer of the modern-day dating competition show, it has faced some stiff competition lately. Shows like Love Island and Too Hot to Handle have drawn massive crowds. Admittedly, Love Island’s premise is similar to Bachelor in Paradise. The dating show, which originated in the UK and has since expanded globally with versions in other countries, brings singles into a Villa to live completely separate from the rest of the world. The “islanders” must couple up or face eviction.
Tanner Tolbert successfully competed in the series
Tanner Tolbert is a Bachelor Nation success story. Fans first met the TV personality during season 11 of The Bachelorette. While he didn’t make it far with Kaitlyn Bristowe, he was not deterred. Tolbert was dismissed during week 6 of the competition, but did return for Bachelor in Paradise season 2. He had a lot more luck on that series. Tolbert met Jade Roper in paradise and fell in love. The rest is history.
Roper and Tolbert left the series engaged. They married in 2016 and have since welcomed three children together. While Roper focuses most of her social media musings on her family, she did speak out about the potential for age-gap relationships forming during season 10 of Bachelor in Paradise. She simply replied ”ew” to Jesse Palmer’s comment about the potential. Other alum also weighed in. Rachael Kirkconnell was a bit more expansive with her thoughts. They were also negative.
