Hulu’s newest reality series is upending traditional dating rules. 

At first glance, the 21 singles who’ve descended on a tropical paradise to find love in Are You My First? look like the cast of any other dating show. But this group has one thing in common: They’re all virgins.

Hosted by Bachelor Nation stars Colton Underwood and Kaitlin Bristowe, this show from the producers of Love Island USA follows 21 singles as they embark on a heated and heartfelt journey to love. Through romantic dates and revealing challenges, they search for the person with whom they might be willing to have sex with for the first time. But if they can’t make a connection? Well, say goodbye to the beach. 

“If you are unable to find love here, you will be sent home,” Underwood says in the trailer.

So, who are the 21 singles considering going all the way in Are You My First? The cast ranges in age from 23 to 34 and hails from all across the country. Some people are waiting for religious reasons, while others have a fear of intimacy. A few just haven’t met the right person. 

Not having met a worthy guy is why Jade Thomas is still a virgin at 28. She’s a former NFL cheerleader for the New Orleans Saints and was also crowned Miss New Orleans USA in 2022 and 2023. 

“The traditional dating scene wasn’t working so I had to try something new,” she wrote on Instagram after the show was announced. 

Meanwhile, San Diegan Mike Planeta, 34, has a different reason for holding on to his V-card. His Christian faith calls him to wait until marriage to have sex, says The Bachelorette Season 17 alum. He says it’s all about trusting a higher power guiding him in the right direction.

“I trust that God’s wisdom is greater than mine,” he said in a 2023 interview with Christianity Today’s Viral Jesus podcast. “So if I trust that, then that takes a lot of pressure off me to then go out and have to make all these really hard decisions, especially in the heat of the moment … I try to think of things to the fullest extent, especially when it comes to another person. So God’s word is going to say, ‘You’re going to honor her.’ … to me, that’s simple.”

  • Andrew, 25, works in tech sales and is from Salt Lake City, Utah. He’s saving his first time for the one who will be his forever.
  • Brooklyn, 24, is a dance teacher from Los Angeles. She believes the right one is worth the wait.
  • Carissa, 27, is a photographer from Long Beach, California. She’s holding out for the one who’s truly right.
  • Deya, 28, is a small business owner from Fort Lauderdale. She’s holding out for a storybook love. 
  • Farha, 25, is a writer and content creator from Miami. She’s a late bloomer raised in a religious home who is waiting for true love. 
  • Godwin, 27, is a real estate developer from Edison, New Jersey. He enjoys the attention he gets for being a virgin. 
  • Hakeem, 27, is a voiceover artist from Atlanta. He knows sex comes with risks and isn’t approaching his first time lightly. 
  • Jake, 32, is a caregiver from Los Angeles. He’s a Christian who is saving sex for marriage. 
  • Katya, 28, is a theatre artist from New York City. She’s still looking for her “first” because everything is about sex except sex, and sex is about power.
  • Krash, 24, is a social media manager from Miami. His strict upbringing taught him to wait for the right person.
  • Layne, 24, is a commercial pilot from Hammon, Oklahoma. He’s never had a serious girlfriend.
  • Madi, 28, is a marketing manager from Austin. She has a fear of intimacy and is waiting to meet her true love.
  • Michael, 26, is a tour guide and stand-up comedian from Austin. He’s waiting to have sex because of his fear of intimacy
  • Noah, 25, is a business owner in San Clemente, California. He’s waiting until marriage to have sex.
  • Rachael, 30, is a cocktail waitress from Tampa. She’s navigating a health challenge that affects physical intimacy.
  • Sara, 28, is a student from San Diego. In the past, she prioritized her studies over finding love.
  • Spencer, 25, is a residential solar salesman from Boise. He’s saving his first time for someone with whom he has a meaningful connection.
  • Ty, 25, is a web developer from Provo, Utah. He’s decided to remain celibate before marriage for religious reasons.
  • Vivek, 23, is a financial accountant from Los Angeles. He wants to share his first time with someone he truly trusts.

Are You My First? premieres Monday, August 18 on Hulu.
