Bella Hadid and her ex, Adan Banuelos, made headlines when they ended things in early 2026. The couple had been together for over two years before they called it quits. Despite this, they began spending time together in recent months. As a result, Banuelos was reportedly surprised to learn that Hadid didn’t view him as her boyfriend.

On Jan. 26, news broke that Hadid and Banuelos ended their relationship. They were first linked in 2023.

“It was after the holidays and is still very recent and fresh,” a source told Us Weekly.

Hadid reportedly threw herself into work as she dealt with the breakup. Her job was one of the reasons they ended things. The source said things went “downhill” after Hadid “got busier with work promoting her new series, taking on more campaigns and events with Orebella.”

They were also long-distance for much of their relationship, which made things hard on them. 

“They also realized they had differing opinions and values about life and their future. There was a lot that was putting strain on the relationship,” the source said. “Adan really wanted her to be in Texas with him, but Bella was ready to spread her wings again and take on more work in Los Angeles and New York.”

Hadid reportedly leaned on her friends after the breakup. They took a girls’ trip to the Virgin Islands.

“It was the perfect escape for her. She’s been really heartbroken and thought Adan was The One,” the insider said. “Her girlfriends and her family have been lifting her up in the last few weeks.”

They continued to see each other after breaking up

Though Hadid and Banuelos ended things, they continued to see each other.

“The split was brief but needed,” a source told Us Weekly. “They have been up and down since December, but she still cares deeply about him and wants to make it work.”

The source added that it was difficult for Hadid to move on from the relationship with Banuelos. She wanted to make things work with him.

“They are working on their relationship right now,” the source said. “He has been a huge part of her life in Texas, so it’s been hard for her to let go.”

The pair took a trip together to Aspen in July.

Though Hadid and Banuelos have been spending time together, she has also been linked to other men. This month, several sources reported that she was involved with another cowboy, Nathan Lacy.

“She does have someone she’s hanging out with, but he’s just someone she’s getting to know,” a source told The Daily Mail. “So don’t get too excited about it. I think she’s just trying to have a companion, she’s not trying to get married, she’s not trying to make this more than it is.”

Ultimately, TMZ later updated their own reporting on the potential relationship to say that Hadid was still single. This was news to Banuelos. He reportedly thought that he and Hadid were dating. As a result, the reports about her being single came as a shock.
