Beyoncé Abandoned Entire Album After Song Was Leaked, Jamaican Musician Mr. Vegas Says: ‘She Was Pissed’
Beyoncé and Jamaican dancehall artist Mr. Vegas created a buzz when their music worlds collided on the track “Standing in the Sun,” blending her powerhouse vocals with his signature island flair. The collaboration showcased Beyoncé’s versatility as she leaned into reggae-infused rhythms. And Mr. Vegas added authentic Caribbean energy that gave the song a fresh, global sound. Their pairing highlighted Beyoncé’s long-standing appreciation for dancehall and reggae influences, introducing a wider audience to Mr. Vegas’ artistry. And according to Mr. Vegas, Beyoncé had another album planned that she never released after their song was leaked.
Jamaican dancehall artist Mr. Vegas recalled connecting with Beyoncé
Mr. Vegas, known for hits like “Heads High” and “Hot Wuk,” brought his signature energetic delivery and authentic Caribbean flavor to his studio sessions with Beyoncé. Beyoncé and Mr. Vegas collaborated on a remix of “Standing On the Sun.” And the song was later included on Beyoncé’s 2014 album, Beyoncé: Platinum Edition.
In September 2025, Mr. Vegas spoke to DJ Vlad on VladTV about initially connecting with the R&B queen. She knew his hit song, “Bruk It Down,” which helped bring them together. Thanks to an industry contact, Mr. Vegas and Beyoncé were able to collaborate — but the entire ordeal was
“It was like some top secret files,” Mr. Vegas said. “We had to go to code and all kinds of things to get certain agreements — confidentiality agreements.”
Mr. Vegas then explained how he “took the project to Jamaica” to give Beyoncé an “authentic dance song.” From there, he connected with Danny Browne, the producer of “Heads High.” Others also worked closely with Vegas in developing the sound.
“We sent it to her, and she wanted me to be more hardcore on the record because I was trying to be like — trying to do a baby boy-type of thing with a Sean Paul vibe,” Mr. Vegas described. “And she was like ‘No, no.’ She wanted the raw thing.”
According to Mr. Vegas, ‘someone leaked the record’ after he made the recording
Unfortunately, Mr. Vegas and Beyoncé’s moment working together was short-lived. After heading to Jamaica to develop the sound on their project, he recalled to DJ Vlad how “someone actually leaked the record.”
After that, “the record started taking off on the East Coast.” DJ Vlad remembered how people close to him called him to tell him that his song with Beyoncé was hitting No. 1 on the radio.
“Someone leaked the record, and I think she was — I don’t know what happened,” Mr. Vegas said.
He recalled how, when he went back to the studio, the engineer played Beyoncé’s upcoming album, which was supposed to include their song, “Standing on the Sun.”
“The next day, or two days after I woke up, and Beyoncé dropped a totally new project at 12 midnight,” Mr. Vegas added. “No ‘Standing on the Sun,’ nothing I heard in the studio. So, maybe because they leaked the record, she was pissed or something. I don’t know. But then, later on, she put it on her Platinum compilation.”
Some fans don’t think Beyoncé would scrap an entire album concept over the leak
Fans on Reddit discussed Mr. Vegas’ claims about Beyoncé and their leaked track. While the dancehall artist likely thinks the leak had something to do with Beyoncé abandoning an album concept, one fan thinks Beyoncé was already working on heading in a different direction with her sound.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if she had already ditched the dancehall/Afrobeats concept by the time ‘Grown Woman’ and ‘Standing on the Sun’ became throwaways for commercials,” a fan commented. “It had to be deliberate misdirection, because she was already working on the darker-sounding songs by that point. … I also don’t think she would scrap a whole album concept due to the leak of a song that she had already performed in Belgium as an exclusive one-off.”
