Beyoncé Songwriter Verifies She’s ‘Far From’ a ‘Diva’
Beyoncé holds one of the most commanding reputations in the music industry, celebrated for her unmatched work ethic and visionary artistry that have cemented her as a global icon. Often described as the embodiment of excellence and perfectionism, she’s known for meticulous attention to detail in every performance and project. While this quality has elevated her status, it has also fueled perceptions of her as a “diva.” Thankfully, a composer and producer who worked with Beyoncé can verify that the Grammy-award-winning artist is “far from the diva” that some may assume she is.
Grammy-winning songwriter and producer, Brian Soko, put rumors of Beyoncé’s ‘diva’ personality to rest
Brian Soko, a Grammy-winning songwriter and producer, played a key role in shaping some of Beyoncé’s most memorable sounds during the early 2010s. He is best known for co-writing and co-producing “Drunk in Love.” The sultry, trap-influenced hit from her self-titled 2013 visual album instantly became a hit amongst fans. Soko’s sharp production instincts and genre-blending approach helped give the song its hypnotic rhythm and raw sensuality. The collaboration marked a turning point in Beyoncé’s musical evolution. For Soko, it was a breakout moment that put his name on the map among the industry’s elite producers.
While speaking to Drum, Soko reflected on his experience working with Beyoncé. He explained how his time working with her reminds him of the “gifts” he can offer the industry. He also commented on her incredible warmth as a person.
“She was super professional and far from the diva persona that she’s become known for,” he told the publication. “She was very amiable throughout the time that we worked together.” He added that Beyoncé “loved” the track after they collaborated in the studio.
“I never thought I would with such a prolific singer, and so that opportunity was confirmation that I’m on the right track, and winning a Grammy for the song was a cherry on top,” he continued.
Soko noted that coming from Zimbabwe made the win extra special. He continues to write music for movies and artists.
