Birmingham to Celebrate Ozzy Osbourne 1 Year After His Death
Ozzy Osbourne’s death in July 2025 absolutely devastated the rock world. While Osbourne had been sick for some time, his death still felt unexpected, just days after his final performance. Now, a year later, his hometown is ready to honor him again with a city-wide celebration. Here is everything you need to know.
A Hometown Tribute, One Year Later
The inaugural Ozzy Day will take place on July 22, 2026, exactly one year after Osbourne died at age 76. Organized by Central BID Birmingham in partnership with OPUS (Outdoor Places Unusual Spaces), Birmingham City Council, Birmingham New Street, and Westside BID, the event will bring live music, public art, and special events to landmarks across the city. The tribute is designed to celebrate one of Birmingham’s most famous residents on a date that would otherwise mark a somber anniversary.
Ozzy Day caps a year of tributes from the entertainment world. In February, he was posthumously awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2026 BRIT Awards in Manchester. The ceremony closed with an all-star tribute performance of “No More Tears.” The rockstar was also remembered at the 2026 Grammy Awards during the ceremony’s In Memoriam segment. Post Malone, joined by Slash, Duff McKagan, Chad Smith, and Andrew Watt, performed Black Sabbath’s “War Pigs” as a tribute.
Sharon Osbourne Reflects on the Anniversary
The announcement of Ozzy Day comes just days after Sharon Osbourne, Ozzy’s widow, took to Instagram to mark her first wedding anniversary without him. She wrote, “Forever my husband. Forever my heart.” The Osbournes would have been married for 46 years.
Ozzy Osbourne died of a heart attack on July 22, 2025, at age 76. The Black Sabbath frontman had battled significant health issues in his final years, including complications from a 2019 fall that required multiple surgeries and Parkinson’s disease. His death came just 17 days after his final live performance, a farewell concert with Black Sabbath at Birmingham’s Villa Park.
