Donnie Wahlberg is getting the Boston Blue cast pumped for season 2.
When the Danny Reagan actor learned that the Blue Bloods spinoff would be returning for a second season, he took it upon himself to share the news with his costars.
Donnie Wahlberg celebrates ‘Boston Blue’ renewal
“I had the pleasure of calling all my castmates and telling them… that we were getting a season 2,” he told People while attending the 2026 iHeart Radio Music Awards in Los Angeles with his wife, Jenny McCarthy on March 26.
“And I did it, and every cast member got tears in their eyes, every single one of them, and so did I,” he continued. “And when I called Jenny and told her about that, we shared a nice cry.”
Wahlberg is an executive producer of the CBS drama. After the network picked up another season of the show in December 2025, he specifically asked to be given the chance to share the renewal news with the rest of the cast.
“Well, I’m an EP too, so I said as one of the EPs, I’d like to be the one to tell them. And everyone agreed,” he explained.
Will fans see more of Marisa Ramirez in ‘Boston Blue’ Season 2?

So, who got that special call from Wahlberg? All of the show’s core cast members are expected to return, including Sonequa Martin-Green as Lena Silver, Ernie Hudson as Reverend Edwin Peters, Maggie Lawson as Sarah Silver, Gloria Reuben as Mae Silver, Marcus Scriber as Jonah Silver, and Mika Amonsen as Sean Reagan, Us Weekly reports.
Blue Bloods star Marisa Ramirez is also expected to appear in Boston Blue Season 2. Ramirez, who plays Danny’s former NYPD partner and current girlfriend Maria Baez, was seen in several season 1 episodes. She could play a more prominent role in season 2. Boston Blue creator Brandon Sonnier told TV Insider it was “distinct possibility” that Ramirez would be upped to a series regular role in the coming season. Baez might even relocate from New York to Boston.
“Crazier things have happened,” co-creator Brandon Margolis added.
New episodes of Boston Blue air Fridays at 10 p.m. ET/PT on CBS through May 22. Episodes also stream on Paramount+.
