CBS is heading back to Beantown. On Wednesday, the network announced that it had renewed new series Boston Blue for season 2. Fire Country spinoff Sheriff Country will also return for a second season. 

“Two new shows on Friday night have become instant hits, with audiences quickly embracing Boston Blue and Sheriff Country across broadcast and streaming,” said Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment. “These early renewals reflect the power of character-driven storytelling, compelling narratives and the exceptional talent on both sides of the camera that make these series truly stand out.”

Series star Donnie Wahlberg, who plays Danny Reagan, reacted to the renewal news on social media. 

“Brooklyn & Beantown ride again,” he wrote on his Instagram Story. “So thankful to all of our cast, crew, and viewers!” 

Wahlberg’s castmate Marcus Scribner also celebrate the season 2 news. 

“Lets go!!!! Thank you guys for all the love and support,” he wrote in a post on his Instagram Story.

Blue Bloods spinoff Boston Blue premiered October 17. Since then, it’s averaged 8 million viewers in Nielsen live plus 7-day multiplatform ratings, according to CBS. It is outperforming its parent series in streaming, with viewership up 87% from Blue Bloods’ final season, which aired in 2024. 

Boston Blue airs Fridays at 10 p.m. ET/PT on CBS. Episodes also stream on Paramount+. In the show’s upcoming December 5 episode, “Baggage Claim,” Lena’s (Sonequa Martin-Green) pursuit of justice forces Danny (Wahlberg) into an unexpected role reversal, while Sarah (Maggie Lawson) faces a personal dilemma that tests her resolve. Meanwhile, Mae (Reuben) contends with political pressure, and Sean (Mika Amonsen) and Jonah (Scribner) uncover more than they anticipated during a routine case.
