Brad Pitt’s Upcoming Cliff Booth Movie Gets a Title
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood fans are one step closer to seeing Cliff Booth return to the screen. Despite months of speculation, a surprise Super Bowl ad and some spy photos, Netflix was largely quiet on the spinoff movie. Now, they are ready to talk. The Cliff Booth spinoff officially has a title.
From Untitled Project to Official Name
While Once Upon a Time in Hollywood fans knew that they would eventually see Brad Pitt reprise his role as Cliff Booth in an upcoming project, they didn’t know the name. Over the last several months, the movie has carried several different working titles. It was first labeled as an “untitled” Cliff Booth project by Variety. Later, it was billed as The Adventures of Cliff Booth. That didn’t stick.
Netflix has finally dropped the real name in a buzzy announcement. An 12-second video announced that the spinoff would hit the streaming giant’s catalog as The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth. The title leans into the film’s planned tone and acknowledges exactly where the character came from.
What is the movie about?
The new film will drop fans into 1977, eight years after Once Upon a Time in Hollywood ended. The movie will catch back up with Pitt’s Cliff Booth as he navigates a Hollywood landscape that’s changed dramatically since audiences last saw him. In the original movie, Booth and his best friend and longtime professional partner, Rick Dalton (played by Leonardo DiCaprio), altered the course of history by stopping the Manson Family from carrying out the real-life murders of Sharon Tate and several others on the night of August 8, 1969. The sequel picks up with Booth working solo as a Hollywood “fixer.”
Leonardo DiCaprio’s name is not attached to the project. Timothy Olyphant will, however, reprise his role as James Stacy. New characters will also be added, with actors Elizabeth Debicki, Scott Caan, Carla Gugino and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II all connected to the project. It’s unclear what roles they will be playing right now, though.
Quentin Tarantino will not be directing the follow-up. Instead, David Fincher will take on the directorial role. Tarantino did, however, serve as the writer. Tarantino doesn’t have plans to direct more than 10 movies. This project would have marked his 10th. Tarantino passed on the directorial role because he didn’t want his final flick to be a sequel. He explained his thought process on the Church of Tarantino podcast.
The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth will premiere in IMAX theaters for a two-week engagement beginning November 24. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film will then move to Netflix on December 23.
