Former Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Brandi Glanville recently revealed that her attempt to clear up a cold led to a visit to the emergency room. Glanville said that after her son got her sick, she read that garlic could help with congestion. She warned people against following similar online health tips after this advice went awry.

Brandi Glanville said an online remedy landed her in the hospital

Glanville said that she recently caught a cold from her son, Jake.

“Jake came over and he kept sneezing in my face,” she said on her Unfiltered podcast. “He’s like, ‘I’m not sick anymore.’ Like, cover your mouth when you sneeze. And then I got his cold.”

Glanville said she started researching at-home methods to clear up congestion. One tip, which another son backed up, suggested putting garlic in a nostril. Ultimately, this was so uncomfortable that she moved it to her ear.

“It was burning too much so I moved it to my ear,” she said. “It was like burning my skin because I’d just lasered it.”

Unfortunately, the clove got stuck in her ear. After trying and failing to remove it, she went to the emergency room.

“On Easter, I didn’t do anything because of the garlic in my ear. I was trying to get it out,” she said. “It really went down further and I had to go to urgent care the next day and get it taken out.”

She cautioned people against following similar remedies they find on social media.

“I was just trying to clear my sinuses. It’s online,” she said. “Don’t listen to people online or TikTok or Instagram or Twitter or Facebook.”

Brandi Glanville has been open about her health journey in recent years

Glanville has been open with her fans about her health. She has spoken at length about a possible parasite that caused facial deformities. She said she also faced other health issues.

“My hair is falling out, especially on the left side,” she said on Inside Edition (via People). “I have lumps in my face, lumps in my neck. My joints are sore. I’m fatigued.”

She began to suspect her breast implants were responsible for her health problems. After a consultation with Dr. Ariel Ourian in February, she learned that her right implant ruptured entirely, and her left had a leak. He removed her implants.

“It is torn. It is ripped,” he said. “And this is actually much worse than I had expected.”

Ourian removed both implants and replaced them with ones that should be less likely to rupture. He noted that this can happen to people with breast implants.

“Some patients get what’s called breast implant illness, and it can really affect multiple parts of the body,” he said. “So I think it’s really important to go in, get all of that ruptured silicone out.”

Glanville said she is looking forward to living a healthier life with her new implants. She said she already feels her health has improved.
