When Alix Earle stepped onto the Dancing With the Stars ballroom floor, the TikTok star’s run on the hit ABC competition quickly became a headline-making moment. And it wasn’t just for her performances, but for who didn’t attend to watch. Throughout Earle’s time on the show, viewers noticed that her then-boyfriend, NFL wide receiver Braxton Berrios, was never spotted in the crowd, fueling speculation about the state of their relationship. In December 2025, Berrios ignited fury from Earle fans with an Instagram post, but he denied throwing shade. Here’s what he posted.

Braxton Berrios appeared to throw shade toward Alix Earle and her ‘Dancing With the Stars’ performance

After more than two years together, social media personality Alix Earle and NFL wide receiver Braxton Berrios reportedly ended their relationship in early December 2025. This was soon after Earle’s run on Dancing With the Stars concluded. Multiple outlets reported that the split was mutual, with sources citing the strain of a long-distance relationship as the reason. Earle spent months in Los Angeles for DWTS rehearsals and live shows while Berrios played for the Houston Texans.

Fans and media also noted that Berrios’ absence from Earle’s DWTS journey, largely due to his football commitments, became a focal point of conversation as the relationship dynamics shifted in the season’s aftermath. In mid-December 2025, Berrios’ followers thought he threw shade at Earle with an Instagram post. He posted a series of photos of himself with the caption, “What did I miss?”

“Every single performance of Alix’s,” a fan commented, referring to DWTS. Earle finished the competition in second place. The comment has over 30,000 likes, with many other fans adding to the commentary.

Berrios responded to the post. “Sadly I wasn’t able to travel like that in-season,” he wrote.

The NFL star denied throwing shade on his Instagram post

Alix Earle fans continued to pile on Braxton Berrios’ Instagram post, as many assumed he was subtly shading his ex. Others begged Berrios to make up with Earle, as they assumed the two were still in love despite their public breakup.

“Come on …. You love ALIX,” a fan commented on Instagram. “Go get her back, please.”

“@alix_earle and you need a date night!” another fan wrote with a heart emoji. “Rooting for you both!”

Berrios took to his comments to clarify that his Instagram caption “was absolutely not supposed to be” shade toward his ex. According to Page Six, he then pinned a comment from a fan to the top of his post. The comment reads, “People don’t get your caption referring to the Drake song.” In July 2025, Drake released a song of the same title as Berrios’ caption ahead of the release of his ninth studio album, Iceman.

Alix Earle and Braxton Berrios ended their more than two-year relationship largely due to the mounting challenges of long-distance and diverging life priorities. In a tearful Instagram video shared in December 2025, Earle explained that she and the Houston Texans wide receiver had spent most of 2025 apart. During her time in L.A., Earle realized she wanted to continue building her life and career there. She ultimately felt that she “couldn’t be what Braxton needs” at this stage in her life.

“A part of me just also really wants to be focusing on myself right now, and I just feel like I can’t be what Braxton needs,” Earle admitted, according to People. “I want him to have someone with him 24/7 who can support him and be there for him. And he wasn’t really expecting that of me. I think it was more of a me thing. But, I constantly felt guilty.”

She then noted that she and Berrios are on good terms and plan to stay friends.
