‘Bringing Up Bates’ Star Erin Paine In ICU After Suffering ‘Severe Seizure’ Days After Giving Birth
Chad Paine is asking for prayers as his wife, Erin Paine, faces a serious health crisis.
On Thursday, the former Bringing Up Bates star shared that Erin was in the ICU after suffering “a lengthy and severe seizure.”
Erin Paine went into septic shock after giving birth to seventh child
Erin, 34, has been in the hospital since giving birth to her seventh child, Henry, on August 25. She experienced complications after a lengthy and difficult labor, including “a severe UTI and kidney infection, which sent her into septic shock,” Chad explained in a September 1 Instagram update. Now, her health has taken a turn for the worse.
“I have so many mixed emotions as I share this,” her husband wrote on September 4. “Last night, Erin suffered a lengthy and severe seizure. Up to this point, Erin’s infection was getting better, but we found ourselves back in a place of heartache, uncertainty, and tears.”
“She is in the ICU, and the doctors are running scans and tests to determine the cause,” he continued. “Erin is extremely weak and spent hours only half conscious.”
Erin’s health crisis is “one of the hardest things I’ve ever faced,” Chad wrote. “To sit by her side and watch her struggle while being so helpless to ease her suffering. I love her more deeply than words can express, and I can’t even imagine life without my best friend. The hours have been long and heavy, and I know many hearts are aching to see her this way, along with mine. We hold on to faith that healing is coming, even in the midst of the unknown. Your prayers are felt and we are forever grateful.”
Chad and Erin appeared with her family on UpTV’s ‘Bringing Up Bates’
Chad and Erin married in 2013. For years, they appeared with her family on the UPtv reality series Bringing Up Bates. The show followed Erin’s parents (and Duggar family friends), Kelly Jo and Gil Bates, and their 19 children. It was abruptly canceled in January 2022.
On September 4, Erin’s sister Michaela thanked the family’s fans for their prayers and support.
“A huge thank you to every who has been praying for my sister Erin and her family over the past few days,” she wrote on Instagram. “We are overwhelmed with gratitude for the outpouring of love, concern and prayer. Tho I have not been able to respond to every message please know that the comments, texts, and messages have touched our hearts deeply and we are so grateful.”
Lawson Bates’ wife Tiffany Bates and family friends Jill Duggar Dillard, Jana Duggar Wissman, Jessa Duggar Seewald, and Jinger Duggar Vuolo also shared messages of support on Chad’s post about his wife.
Maternal sepsis is the second-leading cause of maternal death in the U.S., according to the advocacy organization End Sepsis. It usually occurs as a result of a severe bacterial infection either during pregnancy or immediately after giving birth. Causes can include infected C-section incisions, urinary tract infections, miscarriage or stillbirth, pneumonia, and having a long labor.
