Brittany Cartwright on Her ‘Horrible’ Relationship With Jax Taylor and Why Their Divorce Still Isn’t Final
Nearly a year after Brittany Cartwright filed for divorce from Jax Taylor, the Bravo star is still working to disentangle herself from the toxic relationship.
On July 22, Brittany was a guest on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen. She opened up about where things stand with her and Jax. She also shared her thoughts on his recent decision to leave The Valley ahead of the show’s third season.
Brittany Cartwright and Jax Taylor are not officially divorced
In August 2024, Brittany moved to formally end her troubled marriage to Jax, whom she wed in 2019. But they are still technically husband and wife, she told Cohen. While the hope was that the divorce would be final this month, “unfortunately” that hasn’t happened.
“We both, like, didn’t send in all of our stuff at the right time,” she explained. “It’s a lot of stuff that happens.”
The new deadline is October 15, Brittany said, adding that “it’s going to happen.”
‘The Valley’ stars have a tense relationship: ‘No trust whatsoever’
Unsurprisingly, navigating the divorce process has not helped Brittany and Jax resolve the underlying issues in their relationship. The Vanderpump Rules alum said that the dynamic with her ex, with whom she shares three-year-old son, Cruz, is “horrible.”
“[There’s] no trust whatsoever,” she said.
Jax isn’t stepping up as a dad, Brittany shared. Cruz has spent roughly 10 nights with his father in the past 12 to 18 months. “He’s with me 24-7,” she added.
Nor is Jax pulling his weight financially. He is “absolutely not” contributing to the mortgage or expenses for their son, Brittany said.
As for his promises that he’d work on himself, Jax isn’t meeting those obligations either. Brittany says he’s not in therapy and she doesn’t believe he’s fully committed to sobriety.
“Should I say?” she asked. “He’s sober from some things but not from all things.”
One thing that Brittany is happy about? Jax’s recent announcement that he was leaving The Valley to focus on his sobriety.
“I found out the night before [the announcement],” she said. “And I was like, that was a great decision. By everyone.”
While Jax and Brittany are on the outs right now, The Valley fans will see the former couple share the stage at the upcoming season 2 reunion.
“I’m ready to go to war,” Jax tells Cohen as he heads into the studio in a reunion sneak peek (via YouTube).
Things quickly get heated between him and Brittany.
“I would not touch that dirty d*ck with a 10-inch pole,” she says.
“That’s not what you said four months ago,” he replies.
Later, Brittany says Jax “degraded me constantly.”
“You made me literally lose my sparkle,” she says.
“Again with the f*cking sparkle,” he says, rolling his eyes.
The three-part The Valley reunion begins July 29 on Bravo. Episodes stream the next day on Peacock.
