Brooke Hogan explains why she wasn’t at Hulk’s WWE tribute
Hogan – whose real named was Terry Bollea – died suddenly on July 24 after experiencing cardiac arrest at his home in Clearwater, Florida. Brooke, who is one of two kids the pro wrestling icon shared with his ex-wife Linda Hogan, was reportedly estranged from her father at the time of death and initially stayed quiet as tributes to him poured in. Now, she’s returned to social media to share her memories of Hogan, and to address some criticism she’s received.
“To those of you giving me crap for not attending my Dad’s tributes, @wwe did not extend an invite,” Brooke wrote on her Instagram Story on July 30.
On July 28, Brooke’s brother Nick Hogan appeared on stage during WWE’s Monday Night RAW program, which included a tribute to his father. The WWE also acknowledged Hogan during live broadcasts of SmackDown and NXT.
Hulk Hogan’s daughter says her bond with her dad ‘has never broken’
A day earlier, Brooke posted an emotional message about her dad and their complicated relationship in the years before his death.
“My dad’s blood runs through my veins … our bond has never broken, not even in his final moments,” she wrote on Instagram.
“When he left this earth, it felt like part of my spirit left with him. I felt it before the news even reached us,” she continued. “… I know he’s at peace now, out of pain, and in a place as beautiful as he imagined. He used to speak about this moment with such wonder and hope. Like meeting God was the greatest championship he’d ever have.”
Brooke went on to “clear a few things up” about her relationship with her dad. She said they did not have a “big fight,” but that things became strained after a series of phone calls where he confided in her about “personal and business” issues.
“Then all of a sudden, he didn’t want me at surgeries …everything started getting covered in a thick veil,” she wrote. “It was like there was a force field around him that I couldn’t get through.”
“He made a choice to walk the path that clearly tore at his spirit,” she continued. “I felt a disconnect. What followed were respectful disagreements that took an emotional toll on me … During the last two years, I had to step away to protect my heart.”
“All I ever truly wanted from my father was love, honesty, and a deep connection,” she concluded. “And for a few special years, I had that – with memories that will last a lifetime.”
