Bruce Campbell had been diagnosed with a “treatable” but “not curable” form of cancer, he announced Monday.

“I apologize if that’s a shock – it was to me too,” The Evil Dead actor wrote on Instagram

While Campbell did not reveal specific details about his diagnosis, he did share that it would require him to step back from working for a time.

“I’m posting this, because professionally, a few things will have to change — appearances and cons and work in general need to take [a] back seat to treatment,” he wrote.

“My plan is to get as well as I possibly can over the summer,” he added, with the goal of being able to tour with his new movie Ernie & Emma in the fall.

“I’m not trying to enlist sympathy—or advice—I just want to get ahead of this information in case false information gets out (which it will),” he added. “Fear not, I am a tough old son-of-a-bitch and I have great support, so I expect to be around a while. As always, you’re the greatest fans in the world and I hope to see you soon!”

Campbell’s supporters responded to his news with an outpouring of love and well wishes.

“You’ve survived fighting off the undead multiple times, you will 1,000% fight this! Stay strong king!” one person wrote.

“Love you, Bruce. Keep the best chin in Hollywood up. We’ll never stop believing in you,” commented another fan.

“Cancer is a bitch, but if there’s anyone out there who can take it on guns and chainsaws blazin’ it’s you Bruce!” wrote another fan. “We’re all behind you in this fight.”
