Bruce Springsteen’s 3 Kids: Where Are They Now and What Do They Do?
Bruce Springsteen and his wife, Patti Scialfa, have raised their three children largely out of the spotlight, even as his decades-long career kept him in it. Their eldest son, Evan Springsteen, born in 1990, has pursued music like his parents. And his daughter, Jessica Springsteen, born in 1991, has made a name for herself as an accomplished equestrian. Their youngest, Samuel Ryan Springsteen, born in 1994, took a different path, becoming a firefighter in New Jersey. Despite their famous last name, Bruce has often spoken about prioritizing a grounded upbringing for his kids. Here’s where they are today.
Bruce Springsteen and Patti Scialfa’s eldest child, Evan Springsteen, 36, has kept a private life
Bruce Springsteen and Patti Scialfa had their eldest child, Evan James Springsteen, on July 25, 1990. In March 2021, the rockstar and Barack Obama discussed fatherhood on their Spotify podcast, Renegades: Born in the USA. Bruce recalled feeling incredibly protective of his wife and firstborn son during Scialfa’s pregnancy.
“I’m standing there, and suddenly I realize, ‘There isn’t anything I wouldn’t do in the world, right now, if somebody says there’s a lion in the hall, can you please go and get him out of the building for now … there was nothing I wouldn’t have done to have Patti and the baby be alright,'” Bruce said, according to People.
The rocker went on to explain that Evan’s birth helped him have a greater understanding of “manhood.”
“That is a gift you get from your children and from your wife,” he said. “Your acknowledgment of a new self. And the realization of your manhood. It was huge. You know, I woke up. I felt as someone, not necessarily someone different, but someone so much further down the road than I thought maybe I’d ever get.”
Today, Evan is 36 and staying out of the spotlight. Evan graduated from Boston College in 2012. While he has not pursued a major commercial career, he has occasionally stepped into the spotlight, appearing at concerts and charity events tied to the university his family has supported, including benefit shows his father has played for financial aid initiatives.
Jessica Springsteen, 34, is a professional equestrian
While Evan Springsteen went the music route, Jessica Springsteen, 34, went the sporting route. She’s built an accomplished career in equestrian. Born in December 1991, Jessica graduated from Duke University and went on to compete internationally in show jumping, one of the most elite disciplines in horseback riding. Jessica’s dedication paid off when she earned a silver medal as part of Team USA at the 2020 Summer Olympics, marking a major milestone in her career. Since then, she’s continued competing at top-tier events worldwide.
Jessica also stays focused on her own career path rather than calling attention to her parents’ successes. “I just try to stay focused on what I’m doing and what I’m here for, basically,” she told reporters following her Olympic win, according to People. “I’ve been so grateful that my parents have supported me throughout my career. They’ve been on this journey for me. It’s been like a huge dream for them as well. So, I’m just really happy that I can make them proud. And I just try to focus on what I’m here to do.”
In 2021, Jessica also taught her first clinic. West Palms Events show management hosted the clinic. The riders invited to participate were 2021 recipients of the Michael Nyuis Scholarships, which provided support to young equestrians who want to compete but lack the financial resources, according to The Chronicle of the Horse.
According to Modern Luxury, Jessica spends the winter equestrian season in Palm Beach. “I’ve been riding down in Wellington since I was on ponies, so it feels like a second home now,” she said. “I also think for everyone involved in the sport, it’s really great to be in one spot for an extended amount of time … to really get in a routine. I feel very grateful I get to start off the year there.”
Bruce Springsteen’s youngest kid, Samuel Springsteen, 32, became a firefighter
Samuel Ryan Springsteen, the youngest child of Bruce Springsteen and Patti Scialfa, chose a path far removed from the entertainment industry. He was born in January 1994 and graduated from the Monmouth County Fire Academy in 2014. He later became a firefighter with the Jersey City Fire Department.
His commitment to the profession drew national attention in 2020 when his father publicly praised him during a television interview on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. And Scialfa also posted about her son’s hard work in August 2019.
“—CONGRATULATIONS,” she captioned a post on Instagram with a fire emoji. “…You followed your dreams…JC firefighter .. Stay safe .. love your brave heart.”
Despite his famous background, Samuel has maintained a relatively low profile, focusing on his demanding career and embodying the grounded upbringing his parents have often emphasized. He also made his famous parents first-time grandparents in 2022 with the birth of his daughter, Lily Harper.
