Nicholas Brendon’s death shocked and saddened Buffy the Vampire Slayer fans who fell in love with him as Xander Harris. While Brendon remained active in the fandom scene long after the series ended, his later life was dotted with legal troubles, health complications, and addiction issues. As news of his death settles, Brendon’s family is trying to tie up loose ends and resolve the estate of the 54-year-old actor. While the family requested privacy following Brendon’s death, a 13-word handwritten will is drawing plenty of attention. The snub sits right at the center of those 13 words.

Nicholas Brendon snubs ex-girlfriend in will

In March 2026, Nicholas Brendon died of natural causes following a long battle with heart trouble. The former TV star reportedly died in his sleep. He was unmarried and had no children, which might complicate claims on his estate. His brother, Kelton Schultz, is hoping one piece of paper will clear everything up. Schultz, who is Brendon’s twin, submitted a handwritten note to the probate court.

The note is reportedly a handwritten will written by Brendon, naming the beneficiaries of his estate. In the 13-word document, Brendon states that “Sarah gets nothing” and that everything goes to his brother, whom he refers to as “Kel.” He closes by saying his brother “can figure it out.” The note appears to have been hastily scrawled by hand.

Who is Sarah?

The “Sarah” in question is identified in the court filing as Sarah Marker. Marker is reportedly Brendon’s ex-girlfriend and one of four potential beneficiaries of the estate. She has been identified as a potential beneficiary during court proceedings, along with his twin brother and Brendon’s parents, Robert and Kathleen Schultz.

Exactly how long Brendon and Marker were together, and what led to their split, has not been detailed in the court filing. In fact, it’s unclear exactly who Marker is. The probate documents establish that she was his ex-girlfriend and a possible heir, but the identifying information stops there.

The mysterious Sarah Marker is not one of Brendon’s known exes, at least we don’t think she is. The TV star was married twice, but neither woman is named Sarah. He split from his first ex-wife, Tressa DiFiglia, in 2006. They married in 2001. He and his second ex-wife, Moonda Tee, had a whirlwind romance that resulted in a short-lived marriage. They married in October 2014 but split a few months later, in February 2015.

He dated a woman named Sarah Allison from 2019 to about 2021. Following their relationship, she spoke out against Brendon, accusing him of physical violence. Other ex-girlfriends have come forward to accuse him of domestic violence over the years, too. RadarOnline shared thier story, but the surname Marker doesn’t appear in those stories.

Is the document legally binding?

Nicholas Brendon’s hand-scrawled note is hardly a standard will, at least not as we typically think of one. Still, the document could have some merits. A handwritten will is sometimes known as a holographic will, and is recognized in some jurisdictions, though intent and authenticity can be difficult to verify.

A judge will be expected to determine the authenticity of the document and whether the instructions left in it are clear enough to distribute Brendon’s estate based on the four-sentence directive. As it stands, Sarah Marker, whoever she is, would have a difficult time staking a claim to Brendon’s estate, unless, of course, she has an alternative document naming her a beneficiary. No such document has been filed with the courts, it appears.

The value of Brendon’s estate is unknown. This is a developing story.
