Cardi B Wants More Kids Despite Not Immediately Feeling the ‘Happiest’ About Having a Son
Cardi B has been open about how motherhood has shaped her life. She frequently spotlights her three children — Kulture, Wave, and Blossom — whom she shares with Offset. She also shares glimpses of their personalities, like Kulture’s sass and Wave’s playful energy, through social media, showing the world her softer, nurturing side. Despite her larger-than-life persona and high-profile career, Cardi makes it clear that family comes first, often pausing work commitments to spend quality time with her children. Before her 2025 pregnancy announcement, she mentioned whether she wanted more children. Here’s what she previously said about expanding her family despite not initially feeling excited about having a son.
Cardi B once admitted she wanted to have ‘4 kids’
Cardi B is a proud mother of three vibrant children — Kulture Kiari, 6, Wave Set, 3, and infant Blossom — all of whom she shares with her estranged husband, Offset. Kulture has often been described by Cardi as the boss of their household, with her strong personality shining through even in toddlerhood. Their only son, Wave, quickly captured hearts and even inspired a tattoo on his mom’s jawline. The youngest, Blossom, was born on Sept. 7, 2024, amid family changes, with Cardi unveiling her name and first photos in mid-2025.
In 2024, Cardi opened up to Complex about her desire to expand her family. At the time, she only had two kids, Kulture and Wave. In 2025, she announced her fourth pregnancy with NFL star Stefon Diggs.
“I want more kids,” she said. “I want four kids.”
The interviewer asked Cardi whether she wanted boys or girls. “Now, I don’t even care anymore,” she responded, as she had one boy and one girl at the time. However, she noted that she thinks of herself as “girly” and always wanted a daughter.
“I’m really girly. I’m not, like, the sporty, whatever-the-crap person. I always wanted a girl. And that’s why even when I got pregnant with my daughter the first time, it’s like, I’m 25, and God gave me a girl. This is a sign of God, people! He wants me to have this baby.”
The rapper explained how she felt ‘scared’ when she found out she was pregnant with a boy
Cardi B’s son, Wave Set Cephus, has quickly become a fan favorite thanks to his bright smile and playful spirit. Born in September 2021, Wave is Cardi’s second child with Offset and their first son together. Though Cardi initially kept much of his early life private, she eventually shared photos that revealed his big personality and striking resemblance to both of his parents. She has spoken about how protective she feels over him, while also highlighting his mischievous, fun-loving energy that keeps their household lively.
While speaking to Complex, Cardi revealed that she felt “scared” to have a little boy.
“I always wanted a girl. When I found out I was having a boy, I was very scared,” she admitted. “I wasn’t, like, the happiest, I ain’t gonna lie. I wasn’t the happiest. I’m like, ‘What the f***?’ I don’t even know how to dress a boy.”
Despite this, she noted how she absolutely adores her son.
Cardi B says her ‘kids come first’ before all else
Cardi B has faced heat from her fans and estranged husband, Offset, regarding her parenting. Despite this, she takes full responsibility for raising her children.
“My kids come first,” she told Rolling Stone in May 2024. “My kids come before anything.”
At the time, the rapper noted that she was looking for a nanny. And she leaned on her parents for help with taking care of her kids. However, she doesn’t want to take advantage of her parents for their generosity, as she knows they’re ultimately her responsibility.;
“I had them kids,” she said. “They came out of my p****, not my mom’s. They mine.”
