Channing Tatum’s Action Stunts Take a Toll — Inside His On-Set Injuries
Channing Tatum surprised his fans after posting a photo from the hospital in February 2026. The Magic Mike actor reportedly underwent surgery for a separated shoulder — a situation he described as “hard” on Instagram. While he didn’t divulge what occurred on social media, we’re now looking back at his history of on-set injuries. Here’s what Tatum has gone through.
Channing Tatum sustained a significant leg injury while on the set of ‘Avengers: Doomsday’
In Avengers: Doomsday, Channing Tatum is slated to reprise his role as Gambit (Remy LeBeau), the kinetic‑charging mutant he first brought to life in Deadpool & Wolverine. Tatum’s Gambit arrives alongside an expansive cast that includes returning Avengers and X‑Men legends, adding a blend of charm and edge as one of the franchise’s most anticipated mutants.
During production in London, Tatum suffered a leg injury that limited his ability to perform some of his action scenes. This led his stunt double to take on more of the physically demanding fight work while he focused on close‑ups and narrative moments. In September 2025, Tatum told Variety that he had to take pain medication and go through intensive physical therapy due to the injury.
“It’s not about the pain I feel in the moment,” Tatum told the publication. “It’s knowing I can’t take this back. And now I know what the next six months of my life will be like. I just hate getting old…. In my mind, I’m literally still 30 years old — 26, if I’m honest.”
Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters on Dec. 18, 2026.
He had another leg injury while filming ‘Roofman’ in 2025
Channing Tatum played Jeffrey Manchester in the 2025 film Roofman. The character lived inside a Toys “R” Us for six months. While filming a notoriously awkward sequence, Tatum suffered an on‑set injury during a physically demanding nude scene. In the film, his character is caught showering inside the store and must sprint and clamber over obstacles to reach a hidden refuge.
Tatum later revealed he gashed his leg while jumping onto a bike rack and attempting to vault into his character’s hideaway. The incident left a scar and required the production team to literally “glue it together and keep going,” according to his interview with Entertainment Weekly. Because he was completely naked and unable to wear protective padding at the time, the injury was both painful and logistically challenging. However, the actor continued filming with good humor and professionalism.
Channing Tatum cut his head and ruptured an eardrum while filming ‘Foxcatcher’ in 2014
In 2014’s Foxcatcher, Channing Tatum plays Olympic wrestler Mark Schultz alongside Mark Ruffalo, who plays his brother. That same year, he told Variety that he sustained multiple injuries due to the physical nature of the film.
“I’m pretty sure I broke my hand in the movie in the training,” Tatum said at the time. “You’re just throwing bodies around, and you get caught in different angles.”
In one particular scene, Ruffalo slaps Tatum and accidentally hits him in the ear. “He pops my eardrum,” Tatum noted. “All of a sudden, it’s just making a screeching noise. I can’t hear anything.” Thankfully, his eardrum healed on its own.
In yet another scene, Tatum slams his head into a mirror, breaking the glass. “I went through the wall on the other side,” the actor added. “I missed the stud by about four inches. I was lucky. But the cut on my head was real.”
He had a scald burn on his groin while filming ‘The Eagle’ in 2011
In the 2011 epic historical drama The Eagle, Channing Tatum played Marcus Aquila, the son of Flavius Aquila in A.D. 120. In 2015, Tatum discussed his groin injury while speaking to Howard Stern.
“I started hyperventilating and screaming and jumping back into the river, because it was a hypothermic river and we had wetsuits on, which was the worst part about it,” Tatum described of the on-set conditions. “So, this poor guy, I gotta be honest … he had been, for 13 hours, running up a hill to boil a huge bottle of water, fill it half-full with actual kettle water, run back down the hill, and then put the river water, and then come over to me just to keep me warm all day.”
Unfortunately, a crew member gave him a boiling bottle of water that wasn’t yet tempered, which he poured down his pants. Tatum noted that the burning continued for 20 to 30 minutes, leading him to have a panic attack. “I didn’t have skin on my penis,” he said. “It oddly didn’t scar. It’s a resilient place down there. It healed pretty quick.”
