Cher sat down with CBS Mornings host Gayle King to share her Cherlato gelato brand and more. Now nearly an octogenarian, the “I Got You Babe” songstress is used to defending her relationship with 39-year-old Alexander Edwards. However, when King brought up their 40-year age gap, Cher simply said, “I’m happy. I’m really, really happy,” before adding, “Whatever. You know what? They’re not living my life. Nobody knows what goes on between us. But we just have a blast.”

The Grammy Award winner divulged that age has “never been an issue” for them, saying that Edwards says she has a “young” spirit despite getting older. “We laugh all the time. I just love him. I think he’s beautiful. He’s really talented. He’s one of the most talented persons I’ve ever met.” The music producer is busy in the recording studio and at home. Edwards has a 6-year-old son named Slash.

During her talk on CBS Mornings, Cher revealed that she used to pray, “God, give me a toddler and a man.” King, noticeably surprised by such a major request, asked, “When did you say that?” The Moonstruck actress responded, “All the time,” saying she got “exactly” what she asked for.

King asked Cher if she was ever overwhelmed by the commitments of a young child, saying it would be hard to return to the life stage of school dropoffs and baseball games. Cher disagreed, describing Slash as “so funny.” She continued, “He’s so smart. He’s a delight.”

Cher and Alexander Edwards’ relationship history

Cher met Edwards at Paris Fashion Week in September 2022 through mutual friends, including Tyga. Sparks reportedly flew quickly between the music icon and the much-younger music executive, who works at Def Jam Recordings as the Vice President of A&R. Edwards, known for discovering and developing artists like rapper YG, has built a solid career in the music industry since his early 20s.

Their relationship went public in November 2022 when Cher, then 76, was photographed holding hands with Edwards, 36. The nearly 40-year age gap immediately stirred controversy online, with fans debating whether the romance was genuine or fleeting. Critics called out the age difference, while Cher defended her relationship, saying, “Love doesn’t know math.”

Despite the skepticism, the couple’s bond has persisted for three years, marked by public appearances and affectionate social media posts. Edwards previously dated model Amber Rose, with whom he shares Slash. Their relationship ended after he admitted to infidelity. Cher has spoken openly about how happy she feels with him. She’s found a joyful, unexpected family dynamic late in life.
