Chaz Bono, the 57‑year‑old eldest child of music legend Cher and the late Sonny Bono, married his longtime partner, Shara Blue Mathes, on March 9, 2026. The wedding marked a milestone after nearly a decade together. Bono and Mathes first began their relationship in 2017 amid years of public interest in Chaz’s life as a trans man and advocate for LGBTQ+ rights. And the celebration drew attention not just for the couple’s vows. Cher arrived at the event wearing a striking diamond and wedding‑style band that sparked speculation about her own relationship status with partner Alexander “A.E.” Edwards. So, did Cher get married? Here’s what we know.

Cher arrived at Chaz Bono’s wedding wearing a ring that sparked marriage speculation

Cher is making headlines for her relationship status following her son’s wedding. Chaz Bono married Shara Blue Mathes at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel in March 2026. And the legendary singer kept her outfit casual, opting for a star-patterned sweatsuit and sneakers. While her clothing certainly turned heads, it was the ring on her ring finger that caught everyone’s attention. According to Page Six, Cher wore a massive piece of jewelry and a band that seemed reminiscent of a possible wedding ring.

So, could the ring mean that Cher privately tied the knot with her long-term partner, Alexander “A.E.” Edwards? While it’s possible, neither Cher nor Edwards has confirmed the rumored nuptials.

The couple has been together since 2022 and repeatedly defended their 40-year age gap. And in December 2025, reports suggested that Cher and Edwards made plans to get married. However, Cher’s rep insisted that the couple had “no plans” for a wedding at the time despite the rumors. With this in mind, it seems unlikely that the couple tied the knot in 2026.

This isn’t the first time that Cher has ignited engagement and marriage rumors

In late December 2022, Cher ignited widespread speculation that she might be planning to marry Alexander “A.E.” Edwards after posting a photo on social media of a large pear‑shaped diamond ring. Edwards gave her the ring as a Christmas gift.

In the tweet, she wrote simply, “THERE R NO WORDS, ALEXANDER, A.E.”, alongside the image of the ring in its box. This prompted fans to immediately wonder whether it was an engagement announcement. The dramatic sparkle and positioning of the ring in the photo were enough to set off discussion across entertainment news sites.

Mike Fried, CEO of The Diamond Pro, told Page Six that the diamond was “truly extraordinary.”

“Cher’s ring is as spectacular as any shoe on the Vegas strip,” Fried noted, adding that the “massive” stone looked over 6 carats. “Pear-shaped diamonds of this carat weight are incredibly rare, especially high-quality ones,” he told the publication, adding that the band looked custom as well.

Despite the buzz, Cher did not directly confirm an engagement at the time. She later reposted the same image with a playful clarification that she had shared the photo because of Edwards’s distinctive green‑flame nail polish, not necessarily to announce a proposal.

In late 2025, Cher opened up to Gayle King on CBS Mornings about her relationship with Alexander “A.E.” Edwards. She explained how she doesn’t care what others think about their 40-year age gap.

“Whatever,” she told King. “They’re not living my life. Nobody knows what goes on between us, but we just have a blast.”

Cher added that Edwards has no issue with their age gap as well. “He just says, ‘You know, you get older, but your spirit is younger,'” she explained.

“We laugh all the time, you know? I just love him,” she continued. “I think he’s beautiful. He’s really talented. He’s one of the most talented persons I’ve ever met.”

Cher also bonds heavily with Edwards’ young son, Slash. She joked that she asked God to give her “a toddler and a man,” and she now has exactly what she hoped for.
