Chris Pratt Had to Agree to a Non-Negotiable Christmas Tradition Before Katherine Schwarzenegger Would Marry Him
Fans widely saw pre-marriage Chris Pratt as a lovable, goofy, relatable action star. He was the Parks and Rec guy who stumbled into blockbuster fame. Since marrying Katherine Schwarzenegger, however, Pratt has been associated with his Christian identity and the conservative-leaning Schwarzenegger/Kennedy family. Despite fans amplifying the drama of Chris and Katherine’s traditional values, one aspect of their life is anything but conventional.
Katherine Schwarzenegger’s non-negotiable Christmas tradition
As Schwarzenegger promoted her new children’s book, Kat and Brandy, she divulged that Pratt agreed to jumpstart the Christmas season immediately after Halloween. The couple notably celebrates the October 31 holiday alongside their public emphasis on faith and family values, as E! News reports. Pratt and Schwarzenegger dress up for Halloween with their three children, Lyla (5), Eloise (3), and Ford (1), as well as Pratt’s son, Jack (13), from his marriage to actress Anna Faris.
The next day, the family delves straight into Christmas. Schwarzenegger told Fox News Digital, “Christmas lights and Christmas music start November 1st,” according to the agreement she made with Pratt before they married on June 8, 2019. The author continued, “My daughter Eloise recently said to me, ‘Mommy, it goes Halloween and then right into Christmas, right?’ And I said, ‘Absolutely.’ That’s my child right there. She gets it. So we’re aligned.”
Schwarzenegger calls herself the “Christmas queen,” saying, “It’s my time to thaw from my icicle that I’ve been living in.”
“Every tradition that we do — from putting up our Christmas lights on Nov. 1 to blasting Christmas music to gathering all together as a family, which I’m really grateful and proud that our family makes a priority every single holiday season,” Katherine explained to Fox News Digital.
How does the Schwarzenegger-Shriver family celebrate Christmas?
It’s rare when celebrity families stick to a “everyone together for the holidays” rule, reports MSN. However, Maria Shriver, her children (including Katherine), and Arnold Schwarzenegger prioritize spending the holiday together, even though Maria and Arnold finalized their divorce in 2021. Their four kids, Patrick, Katherine, Christopher, and Christina, and their kids’ partners seem to value keeping the holiday unified and peaceful.
Arnold is known for being sentimental about the holidays. He often hosts a big family meal on Christmas Eve and rewatches favorite holiday movies. Shriver often talks about Christmas as a time for faith and reflection. Her traditions involve going to Mass and encouraging her kids to reflect on the meaning of the season.
Katherine has shared other consistent holiday traditions for the Schwarzenegger-Shriver family. In the past, she’s said that she grew up with matching pajamas. Christmases include cookie-baking marathons and special holiday recipes passed down from the Shriver/Kennedy side. The 35-year-old has shared that she continues the matching PJs and cooking traditions with Pratt and her kids.
In the end, Katherine’s commitment to holiday magic is a reflection of the tight-knit, tradition-rich world she grew up in.
