Are there still fish left in the sea? For the past two decades, Discovery Channel’s fishing-focused reality series Deadliest Catch has shared the stories of the men and women who brave the rough Bering Sea in search of valuable hauls of crab. But after 20 seasons on the air, has the show finally come to an end?

The most recent season of Deadliest Catch premiered in June 2024, with new episodes airing weekly through October 2024. Since then, there have been no official updates on the show’s future, leaving some fans to wonder if it has been quietly canceled.

While Discovery hasn’t shared any details about a potential premiere date for Deadliest Catch Season 21, signs point to the show returning to TV sometime in 2025. Social media updates from various people affiliated with the series indicate filming took place earlier in the year, during the official crab fishing season.

In February 2025, Captain Rick Shelford of the F/V Aleutian Lady took to Instagram to share a photo of a striking sunset at sea.

“The Bering Sea can be breath taking in so many different ways. I prefer these kind of nights,” he wrote.

In the comments, he shared an update on the future of Deadliest Catch

“Any news on there being a season 21?” one person asked.

“Being filmed right now!” Shelford replied.

In January, a post from the Deadliest Catch World Facebook featured a behind-the-scenes look at filming, including a glimpse of Captain Jake Anderson shooting a scene on the F/V Titan Explorer. (That suggests that he hasn’t been able to return to the F/V Saga, which was repossessed early in season 20 after the ship’s co-owner ran into financial problems.)  And an Instagram update from someone who is part of the Deadliest Catch film crew also confirmed that production was underway.

When might a new season of ‘Deadliest Catch’ premiere?

So, when might new episodes of Deadliest Catch air on Discovery? Past seasons of the show have premiered in late March and early April. In season 21, the show was delayed until June. Deadliest Catch Season 21 might premiere in June 2025, or it could be an even longer wait for fans.

In the meantime, Discovery viewers can look forward to new seasons of Gold Rush: Mine Rescue with Freddy and Juan, which premiered Friday, May 9, and Naked and Afraid: Last One Standing, which kicks off on Sunday, May 18. New seasons of Ghost Adventures and Expedition Unknown are also currently airing.

Deadliest Catch Seasons 1-20 are streaming on Max and discovery+.
