‘Deadliest Catch’ Gets New Spinoff, ‘Deadliest Catch: Northern Edge’
One of cable’s most enduring reality shows, Deadliest Catch, is getting a new spinoff.
‘Deadliest Catch: Northern Edge’ premieres in 2027
Deadliest Catch: Northern Edge will premiere in the first quarter of 2027 on Discovery Channel, Warner Bros. Discovery announced Wednesday during its upfront presentation.
The new show will trade the familiar Deadliest Catch fishing grounds of the Bering Sea for the frozen North Atlantic off the coast of Newfoundland. That’s where captains fish the largest snow crab biomass on Earth – “a billion-dollar bounty that’s buried under ice, storms, and danger,” per a press release.
In Deadliest Catch: Northern Edge, a “fearless fleet of crab captains charge into a 100-mile ice pack, battling nor’easters, icebergs, rival crabbers, and the limits of their own boats to claim their share before the crab – and their futures – disappear,” the description continues. “On the edge of this unforgiving world, only a rare breed of fisherman has what it takes to survive the harsh elements and cash in.”
Northern Edge is the latest extension of the long-running Deadliest Catch, which premiered in 2005 and is currently in its 22nd season. Previous spinoffs include the single-season series Deadliest Catch: Dungeon Cove and Deadliest Catch: The Viking Returns, as well as Deadliest Catch: Bloodline, which lasted three seasons.
More new shows coming to Discovery, including a ‘Homestead Rescue’ spinoff
Several other new shows are in the works at Discovery, the network announced on May 13.
Homestead Rescue is getting a new spinoff, Homestead Rescue: Intervention. It follows Marty and Matt Raney, along with Misty Bilodeau, as they step in to help stubborn off-gridders who need more help than they admit. It premieres Tuesday, July 14 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
How to Catch a Dirtbag features internet sensation Michael McWhorter, aka “Tizzy Ent,” who works to identify those who appear to do horrible things in public and get away with it. It premieres Wednesday, August 5, at 10 p.m. ET/PT.
Escape from Alcatraz (WT) investigates the most infamous prison break in history, the 1962 escape of three inmates from Alcatraz via a homemade raft, and looks at evidences that two of the escapees may have survived. Escape From Alcatraz premieres Thursday, August 6, at 8 p.m. ET/PT
Rescue 911, a “bold reimagining of the hit 1990s television series with an all-new format” invites viewers to experience the drama of real-life emergencies from the moment a 911 call is answered. It premieres in the fourth quarter of 2026.
Coming in the first quarter of 2027 is I Am Prey, a new wildlife survival series starring biologist and adventurer Forrest Galante. Galante will turn himself into a target to document what an apex predator attack feels in an attempt to better understand animal behavior.
