Now, he’s carving his path while honoring the memory of his late mother, Kim Porter. As he steps further into the spotlight, his journey becomes not just one of fame, but of family, loss, and living up to a legacy. Here’s what Christian once said about how it took him weeks to digest the shocking loss of his mother in 2018.

Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ son, Christian ‘King’ Combs, reflected on how it took him ‘weeks’ to digest his mother’s death

Sean “Diddy” Combs and Kim Porter’s relationship spanned over a decade and endured highs, lows, and heartfelt reunions. Together, they shared three children, including Christian “King” Combs. When Porter died of pneumonia in 2018, the loss sent shockwaves through the entertainment world. For Diddy, it was a heartbreak he described as “more than soul-crushing.” In the years since, he has been vocal about her profound impact on his life, often crediting her with teaching him how to love deeply and unconditionally.

Christian was just 10 years old when his mother died. Since her tragic passing, he’s reflected on how he didn’t want to accept her death when it first happened.

“It took a minute, yeah, because it was something so shocking, you really just had to look your family members in the eye for a second and just be like, d***, like, yo, this really happened,” Christian said regarding Porter’s death to Hot 97 in 2019. “It took, like, a cool three weeks to really digest it, you know what I’m saying? You’re still not over it right now.”

The interviewers asked Christian if he had to be “a rock” for Diddy following Porter’s death. “Yeah, for sure,” Christian said. “I can imagine that’s, like, a whole different life when you got to watch over all the kids now by yourself. So, I definitely been with him a lot more and making sure he’s good.”

“He’s focused — he’s locked in right now,” Diddy’s son added. “He’s super locked in on being the pops and moms.”

Sean “Diddy” Combs and Christian “King” Combs sat with Billboard in 2023 to discuss music, family, and Kim Porter. During the interview, Christian flashed one of his mother’s chains around his neck.

“She’ll be super proud,” Christian said. “She’s my biggest fan, because I really been working and doing music since I was 16. And, like my pops said, from the jump, he said he wasn’t gonna help me, give me producer help, writer help, because he didn’t want me to have to ever lean on him or depend on him.”

Diddy reflected on how Porter wanted him to help their son in the industry.

“She was always on me, like, ‘You got your son out there! You need to go do records for him and get him out there,'” Diddy recalled. “And I’m like, ‘Kim, don’t worry. You’re gonna have to get it itself.’ … She would be right here in the middle of us, just enjoying this moment.”

Kim Porter told Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs to ‘take care’ of her ‘babies’ before she died

Sean “Diddy” Combs spoke to Essence in 2020 about what Kim Porter asked him before her death.

“She was unforgettable,” Diddy said. “That day turned my world upside down. Three days before she passed, she wasn’t feeling well. She had the flu, and she sent the kids over to my house so they wouldn’t get sick. One night, I was checking on her, and she was like, ‘Puffy, take care of my babies.’ She actually said that to me before she died.”

Diddy said he did everything in his power to protect his daughters from the news.

“Every time Kim and I talked, it was about the kids,” he continued. “It was what she cared about the most. We’d check in as friends, of course, but we never had a conversation that didn’t include the kids. It was like some superhero s***. I ain’t even gonna lie. On some level, I knew she was training me for this.”
