Disney+ Canceled Shows: ‘Goosebumps,’ ‘The Acolyte,’ and More
Fans are up in arms after learning that Disney+ has canceled their favorite series.
Goosebumps, a horror anthology series based on the popular series of children’s books, won’t be back for a third season, Variety reported. It’s just the latest Disney+ show to come to a premature end. While some of the streaming service’s shows, such as Andor, have reached their natural conclusion, and others, such as WandaVision, were always intended to be miniseries, others were abruptly canceled. Here’s are some of the most notable canceled Disney+ shows.
‘Goosebumps’
Goosebumps premiered in 2023. A second season, which featured Friends star David Schwimmer, debuted in January 2025. A few months later, fans learned that Disney+ was not moving forward with a third season of the show. But all hope is not lost for fans of the series inspired by R.L. Stine’s books. Producer Sony Pictures Television is apparently shopping the show to other outlets, so there’s a chance more episode could eventually surface elsewhere.
‘The Acolyte’
As the home of shows like Andor and The Mandalorian, Disney+ is the go-to streaming service for Star Wars fans. But not every Star Wars show has been a success. In August 2024, it was confirmed that The Acolyte would not return for a second season. The decision, which came just weeks after the premiere, wasn’t entirely surprising. The show, which starred Amandla Stenberg, divided Star Wars fans. Some, including Stenberg, felt Disney had caved to toxic elements in the fandom by shelving it so quickly. But a Disney exec said The Acolyte simply cost too much to produce.
“We were happy with our performance, but it wasn’t where we needed it to be given the cost structure of that title, quite frankly, to go and make a season 2,” co-chairman of Disney Entertainment Alan Bergman told Vulture. “So that’s the reason why we didn’t do that.”
‘American Born Chinese’
Disney+’s American Born Chinese – which featured Ben Wang, Michelle Yeoh, and Ke Huy Quan – earned strong reviews from critics after it premiered in 2023. But the show about a high school student who is thrust into a battle between mythical Chinese gods never found a huge audience. Disney+ canceled it after one season due to poor viewership, Variety reported.
‘Doogie Kameāloha, M.D.’
Disney’s gender-swapped reboot of the Neil Patrick Harris series Doogie Howser, M.D. starred Peyton Elizabeth Lee as child prodigy Lahela “Doogie” Kameāloha, a 16-year-old balancing teenage life with her medical career. In August 2023, Doogie Kameāloha, M.D. was canceled after two seasons.
‘The Muppets Mayhem’
Everybody loves The Muppets, but not everyone loved The Muppets Mayhem. The show followed the Electric Mayhem Band as they recorded their first album. It was unceremoniously canceled in 2023 after just one season.
Canceled shows removed from Disney+
While shows like The Acolyte and American Born Chinese might not be getting new seasons, fans can still revisit old episodes, which are still available to watch on Disney+. Unfortunately, that’s not the case for all the of the streaming service’s canceled shows, a number of which have been permanently removed from the platform and are unavailable to stream anywhere.
Those missing shows include Willow, Big Shot, Turner & Hooch, The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers, Just Beyond, Diary of a Future President, The Quest, The Mysterious Benedict Society, The Right Stuff, and The World According to Jeff Goldblum
