Things are cooling off for Disney+‘s chilling supernatural horror series. Goosebumps will not return for a third season, disappointing fans who were puzzled when the second season, Goosebumps: The Vanishing, premiered on January 10, 2025. Why would a network release a spooky show so far from fall, especially when the first season debuted in October 2023? It seems we’ll never know. Learn more about its ill-timed release, cancellation, and what its stars will do next.

‘Goosebumps’ will not return for a third season on Disney+

Drawing inspiration from R.L. Stine’s iconic tales, both seasons spun eerie webs of mystery. In Season 1, five high schoolers experience the haunting legacy of Harold Biddle, a teen whose death decades earlier casts a shadow on their town. Season 2, Goosebumps: The Vanishing, follows fraternal twins (Jayden Bartels, Sam McCarthy) settling in with their recently divorced botanist father (David Schwimmer). Strange happenings occur in their new home, forcing them and their friends to confront a dark secret.

Despite the intriguing storylines, Variety broke the news that Disney+ has canceled Goosebumps. According to the original source, Sony Pictures Television will shop the Goosebumps universe and possibly explore different creative directions in the future. For now, viewers will have to seek scares elsewhere.

What’s next for the ‘Goosebumps’ Season 2 cast?

David Schwimmer is embracing this chapter of his career with intention. After exploring comedy, horror, drama, and voice work over the last several years, it’s unclear what he plans to do next. Schwimmer did participate in the Borrowed Spotlight this April. The photography exhibit and book highlight and amplify the stories of Holocaust survivors. Last year, he appeared in the comedy-drama film Little Death.

Schwimmer might be keeping a low profile, but other Goosebumps: The Vanishing stars have career-making roles in the works.

Jayden Bartels, known as Cece in Goosebumps: The Vanishing, will star in Lullaby, directed by MJ Bassett. Filming for the suspense thriller begins this fall. Bartels will portray Jessica, a pregnant teenager who tries to take her own life, only to be saved by a woman. In true thriller fashion, this rescuer has ulterior motives.

Sam McCarthy, who portrayed Devin, will star alongside Dafne Keen and Steve Buscemi in The Marshmallow Experiment. The coming-of-age sex comedy film follows McCarthy’s Alex, a socially awkward teen trying to survive while having an insatiable online porn addiction. A release date is forthcoming.

You can catch Ana Ortiz, who portrayed Jen in Goosebumps Season 2, in Imperfect Women. The upcoming Apple TV+ drama series stars Elisabeth Moss and Kerry Washington in an adaptation of the Araminta Hall novel by the same name, authored by Annie Weisman.

Elijah M. Cooper has been busy in 2025. In addition to Goosebumps: The Vanishing, the rising star appeared in procedural drama 9-1-1 and sports drama All American. Next, Cooper will star in Summer Gold, an adventure comedy that follows four friends at a remote summer camp.

Francesca Noel, who portrays Goosebumps‘ Alex, will star in I Hope This Finds You. This short film focuses on a girl who believes she’s communicating with her old lover through a communal library box.
