How Donald Trump Could Steal the Spotlight at the World Cup Final With Melania by His Side
The last big sporting event President Donald Trump attended didn’t go so well. He was booed by the crowd at Madison Square Garden during Game 3 of the NBA Finals, he was then accused of falling asleep during the game, and was labeled “a jinx” when the Knicks lost that night.
But weeks later, the White House announced that the president is going to attend another major sporting event as he will be at the FIFA World Cup match between Argentina and Spain on July 19. And an expert thinks the POTUS will do some things to take attention away from the match in an attempt to shine brightly on the world stage.

Speaking on behalf of Covers, Cornelius told Showbiz Cheat Sheet, “Trump has always understood the power of a headline-grabbing moment, and with the eyes of the world on the World Cup Final, this is exactly the kind of occasion where he is likely to want his presence to be noticed.
“I’d expect him to attend alongside his wife, Melania, and potentially other members of the Trump family, creating a strong family-front image on one of the world’s biggest stages. Their seats would almost certainly be among the VIP guests, putting them shoulder-to-shoulder with sporting icons, celebrities, and political figures, which could make for some of the most talked-about photographs of the day.”
The PR guru continued, “While soccer will be the main event, Trump is unlikely to pass up the opportunity to become part of the wider spectacle. Whether it’s greeting players, meeting officials, or taking part in any pre-match ceremonies. Every appearance would be carefully watched and could quickly become a talking point across social media and beyond.
“His biggest moment could come after the final whistle. I’d expect Trump to make an appearance on the pitch to congratulate the winning team, pose for photos and soak up the atmosphere of what will be a historic occasion. It’s the kind of high-profile moment that naturally attracts attention, and one where Trump is likely to feel very much at home.”
Cornelius added, “There is also the potential for some fascinating VIP encounters throughout the day with world leaders, royals, celebrities, and sporting legends all expected to be in attendance. Trump could find himself involved in some memorable photo opportunities and headline-making meetings away from the match itself.
“Ultimately, the World Cup Final is far more than just a football match — it’s a huge global cultural event. Trump knows the value of being seen at moments like these, and I’d expect him to make sure he is very much part of the story as well as the spectacle.”
